How hard is it to understand that there will not be a new version of gaias zwieb has said it over a 100 times now!

Actually...Zweibel said Gaias on WC3 WILL continue if he can find a new project team to help him terrain and create stuff, however he is STILL creating v1.2 by himself. It's a pinned bulletin at the top

Great news for you Gaias addicts out there ... although no one offered help to create new content, I am still going to revamp the general game style a little in the next weeks.

These are the things that are going to change with 1.2 version of Gaias:

- Several major bugfixes (fixed Gaspode abuse)
- Players fighting each other will be rendered incombat (thus, not allowed to restealth or rest anymore) for 10 seconds when taking damage
- Total revamp of the inventory system: Switching to a fullscreen inventory, which comes with several advantages, such as more place to store items, being able to bring different types of potions and possibly the opportunity to wear both gloves and rings
- This will also come with a total removal of the "classical" WC3 items, as now, you will have to "loot" unit's corpses kinda like in ordinary MMORPG where items will only be shown as part of a loot dialog, where you can select "need" or "greed" on greens, blues and reds - white items and materials can be looted directly
- Revamp of the party system: You will now see hero frames of other players close to your hero at the hero quickbar
- Possibly one additional spell for every advanced class (though this might be not in the initial 1.2 release)

However, such drastic changes to the inventory system will come with a code wipe, naturally. But I totally think its worth it. It will make item handling much easier for me, as I can finally get rid of the damn object data and can totally create items via script code. Man this will be such an awesome relief. As another awesome side effect, this will heavily reduce the filesize of Gaias Retaliation, as I do not need disabled icons anymore.

For now, I can not tell how long this update will take ... I never worked with Fullscreen systems before. I just hope it works as I want it to.

So in some sense - Gaias is back, and it will be awesome, even if Zwebel only does a little bit at a time it's worth the wait :] I would love to see him get a new team though

Well note that the date is over a month ago at that time zwieb was not about to continue the project

Zwiebel just posted this on 6-30-10. He decided that he wants to continue working on the warcraft III version of Gaias he would just like to receive more help while creating it because he does not wish to do it alone. There is still hope for Gaias :]

EDIT: He mentioned he was looking for a new team to help him create Gaias on 6-18-10 since he is no longer working with teh.fellow, muzzel, and shappy, but on 6-30-10 he did mention he would be creating v1.2 which is just revamping many of the old game mechanics and introducing the fullscreen inventory, maybe even a new skill per each class.

EDIT2: OHhhh you ment the date of your post haha. Sorry! Haha I saw bloodxboy had posted today so I just assumed this was a new thread and that you guys were talking about v1.2 - total misunderstanding >.>

It may take a while to create that 1.2 version of Gaias, as I have to completely rework almost any part of the game, except for the battle mechanics. I possibly even have to recreate all items right from scratch as the whole item engine will be different, not to mention that I never worked with trackables before (although I found some nice scripts that make those things easier).
But for now, I'm pretty much confident about my progress. So far, I didn't encounter any real problem that I couldn't fix. Warcraft III may be extremely limited in some places, but once you totally get rid of all object data and default game mechanics and totally rely on script-registrations and JASS, Warcraft III offers an enormous amount of freedom.

Right now, I have finished the placeholder layout of the inventory and the looting mechanic. Next will be scripting the inventory itself, which should not be that hard as it is almost straight-forward case programing.

The only problem I couldn't fix for now is the problem that you can not see which loot is inside the corpse/bag on the ground directly by tooltip. It only says "loot" but you have to click it to open the loot menu and see what is inside. However, I don't think thats a problem. Even benchmark games like World of Warcraft or Dragon Age don't show the loot items on the corpses directly by tooltip.

I now also made a small change to the inventory layout again:
Loot items will now also share the same window as the selling and trading window as you can never loot and sell/buy/trade at the same time, naturally. Also, the crafting window will also share that box. That way I have some free spot on the lower left part of the window. Any idea what to put there? I could add some cool decoration there like a bag model when you are looting or the model of the shopkeeper you are buying from. Or the interaction item when crafting (anvil, bench, etc.). I think thats a cool idea and makes it look better.
