Vertex Modifier

Ok so im reading the tutorial here http://www.oinkerwinkle.com/tools/tutorialnelamp.html and i get to the end and it says "Close the vertex modifier and open the MDL. Look for the following section." What does it mean open the MDL?

Problem is i just started this today and dont know what the mdl is lol . ????

mdx is the compressed form of a wc3 model, mdl is the uncompressed(binary i think) form.
This is a mdl/mdx converter, use it wisely young padawan.

EDIT: quake and doom i think use mdl too, but those are diff types..so dont bother wc3ing with other games mdls..you wont..get anywhere..

mdl is the uncompressed(binary i think) form.

I'd just like to point out that if the mdl file was in binary form, you wouldn't be able to understand the contents, they'd be displayed like: #!@#$!@#% throughout the file. mdl is in text form, which allows people to easily edit it from notepad and such.
