I have been messing around with some over-the-shoulder 3rd person camera action and it looks fine for the most part, but I have noticed the units start jittering whenever the camera is locked to a unit.

It is very visible on the selection circles, shadows and pre-selection information but also on most unit models.
I actually noticed it happens even if you simply lock the target of the camera to unit just once.

The rest of the graphics don't jitter so I don't think it is the fault of periodic camera alignment.

Does anybody know what the hell is happening ?

EDIT: Whoah ok, figured it out.
So it seems that when you lock the camera to a unit the remainder of the map will stutter but if you control the camera via panning, the units will stutter instead.
Are you for real Warcraft ?

So after some testing I figured out that using camera lock on unit with various camera smoothing factors mitigates some of the jittering.

I ended up using a dummy unit ordered to allow polar offset while using the unit camera target lock on and a high camera smoothing factor.
But using camera panning and high smoothing factor seems to work somewhat too.

If you just lock onto a unit without offset using a 0.5 smoothing factor seems to reduce the environment jittering somewhat but it doesn't look very good without an offset.

The camera smoothing seems to be distance dependent.
