Hey all,

I understand how to create .mpq files through use of the programs, but, in all my googling, I can't figure out the answer to the following:

1) How to make the .mpq be useable in game (i.e. they override existing ones)
2) How to make the .mpq be useable in the editor. (so that new units can be placed without editing/importing)

Thanks for anyone's help in advance :)

1 and 2 require you to mod the patch mpq which will curropt the game installation meaning online (multiplayer) play is impossible.

You could also do them via a hacked executable like some of the old mods did. Again this prevents online play.

So if I override the war3patch.mpq things will display in the editor and game? That's not bad, then.

Yes but, like I warned, it will prevent you playing on battlenet and also distributing the maps to other people (unless you give them the tools to add the data to their MPQ).

Yeah, I can deal with that, not too hard with a little bit of scripting.

At least distribution.
