REVIEW
The Crossroads is a simple and highly symmetrical 1v1 melee map. It's different as the map may benefit players/races that can sustain longer games rather than rush maps, without many neutral buildings. See below for a more detailed explanation regarding the map's quality.

FEEDBACK
Gameplay:
Most of the melee components of this map were done on a basic but acceptable level. There was a fair share of different types of creeps, sometimes not very enclosed, but it won't cause any major problems. The camps on the gold mines could have a ranged unit to counter a good air sweep, but other than that there was enough creep variety. Each and every camp drop(s) a variety of reasonable items, but the items are on the weaker side for harder earned orange camps. Both halves of the map have the same creeps and drops tables for fair play.

There is plenty of gold (and below average lumber) to go around in the map more than what most 1v1 maps see, but it compensates by only having one expansion per player. Human players may be disappointed to see that they cannot 'expo rush' and they also do not have there mercenary camps to make up for it. Undead and Orc may have an advantage because of the slightly more campy layout of the map with enough starting resources to get to higher tiers earlier. Players should also know there is no tavern. It's not necessary to put one, but many competitive players will use taverns to their advantage. One more thing, there are a noticeably excessive amount of critters around the map. This favors raise dead like abilities!

Overall, the gameplay has a few imbalances for race, most notably undead (and orc). It's a bad thing for competitively balanced melee players, but it isn't if someone just might like a conservative melee map for a change.
Visuals:
Terrain wise, the map was average. Good tile variation, fair height leveling, and not overdone cliffs is what this map has to offer. It is lacking some environmental doodads, but you've managed to decorate the map enough by adding some rural/farm based structures around the map.

Presentation

Good presentation overall, you gave clear points and informations on what thing does the melee map contains including Features, some screenshot to show, and credits... giving recognitons to users who mostly helped you make your map better. Though if I have to give suggestions, it would be better if you would somehow make something of a change to the template you are using by adding some stuffs which will make it unique of some sort.

Score: 52/100

Design

Everything looks pretty much fine, no loading screen nor minimap preview image but is just optional. No broken icons or anything that deems unacceptable.

Score: 70/100

Terrain

Terrain looks decent though it lacks many things and can still be improved to be honest. Even though at your screenshots, it is not flat, there are still some points that are flat and should be considered to be raised or lower to make different variations to the ground. Also, terrain is quite empty, most of the areas could still be decorated with some doodads such as Creep Camps, the creep camps are really left undecorated and what I think should be actually the one decorated. Also, consider putting rocks at some points on map.

Lastly, map is symmetric which is good.

Score: 59/100

Object Data

Everything looks fine here though just the emptiness of the terrain at some points are disturbing and looks awkward, mostly on terrain for creep camps.

Score: 59/100

Gameplay

Melee map looks decent though I opened the map and I suggest remove the creeps at the Gold Mine for the starting point of each player for I found it useless because the trigger still needed to clear it though you could just simply dont put any creeps there. Also, as much as possible, you must not reveal the ends or bounds of the map, put some trees to cover for it beyond the bounds or exactly at map bounds. Item Drops looks good and is randomly generated which should be. So overall, everything loos very fine though just the unnecessary creeps at starting Loc of Players and about the bounds.

Score: 60/100

mr_design_suggestions.jpg

Overall, concentrate on improving terrain for it still has a large possibility for improvements. Also, remove the unnecessary creeps at Player Start Location and lastly cover the map bounds, do not reveal it.

A wild SonofJay appears!

The Crossroads, a two player melee map made by RCS12, made me a little curious when I saw its sexy mini-map preview while browsing the map section. To be blunt it didn't really appeal to me when I played it, I think it could have been way better than it is right now. One of the biggest issue is that the terrain is very empty, putting a little more doodads like arc, lantern, etc and a better way of painting the tileset will do the trick, spamming the building doodads is also a nice option.

Another issue is that the map content is also lack some dynamics to make the game a little more interesting. Just one goblin shop? Seriously? I also want to point that the item drop is ridiculously weak. Level 2 item drop from a creep camp defending the gold mine? Damn. I suggest you improve the drops and you can probably put a mercenary camp on both team lower-side creep camp. Also you might want to drop a red camp on the middle-bottom part of the map.

2/5 since its playable and not really that bad. But seriously, the map is just small and you just mirror the half of it so you should have put more effort to it to make it more appealing and enjoyable to play.

You always point out the things I always forgot to say or maybe just don't have the guts lol. By the way, RCS, you should definitely follow what SoJ said for it will really be of big help to you on improving your melee map.

And nice short insight, SoJ!

Not quite the idea of little changelogs going around here, the map's portion as a whole does not really work out when it comes to strategizing, I mean the base is given cover for 2 layers which looks interesting, still through defense proportions and spell skills AoE anaylsis, the whole map lacks ground, yes ground. Enough ground to carry more neutral buildings, a quantity of lumber and cliffs for tactical use and more over macro.

What I explored where just easy take out spots I can actually storm the expansions really early.

To cover this upload up, I'd say you made a good impression for map making but not quite the finale of its release.
