Hi everyone,

Is there a way to open both the TFT World Editor and the ROC World Editor at the same time?

I’ve noticed there are quite a few differences in unit stats between ROC and TFT, and I’d like to compare them side by side. What’s the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Here is my Solution

In later patches both ROC and TFT clients were merged into one executable file for both game and editor clients, so if you try to open the World Editor with that version, you'll always have the TFT mode.

Since you're using the older patches, it's up to you. If you only have ROC client installed, then the World Editor will open in ROC mode instead. If you have both ROC and TFT clients installed, it will be TFT mode.

In short: You can't open both ROC and TFT World Editors at the same time.

EDIT: You can open ROC mode of World Editor even if you have TFT client installed (older patches only). Just make a separate copy of the game, but don't include the "War3x.mpq" file in this copy. Or just don't install the TFT client and leave ROC one unharmed.
EDIT 2: deepstrasz's posts below contain some useful tricks about using ROC versions of units on the latest patch, as well as the original ROC stats. The problem is that any changes made in the Object Editor will still specify your map as TFT-only and doesn't implement the original ROC stats.
EDIT 3: Use YDWE, which has an option to open WE in ROC mode.

I believe there's a trick to make WE openable in ROC mode while you have both clients installed.

Thank you anyways.

I wish there was a "Use ROC stats" option vs manually putting them back to ROC stats.

The "Use ROC stats" refers to the option in the "Scenario" -> "Map Options", namely "Game Data Set", where you can use the vanilla stats from the older patches. What it does mean is that if you don't use the vanilla stats, then you have all 8 Tavern heroes available, Human heroes can buy an Orb of Slow instead of Orb of Fire, Undead heroes can buy a Sacrificial Dagger, among the others. The manual approach would be changing the gameplay constants of the attack and armor, as well as attack and armor types of almost all units in the Object Editor, which is quite tedious.

I have a separate folder where I copied all the stuff needed to run World Edit before I installed TFT.

In theory you just need to really remove war3x.mpq for ROC Editor, but I just did it my way instead

Not sure what you mean here. I was saying i wish we had an option to do change everything back to the ROC settings while playing TFT.

This option your referring to does NOT give ROC stats though like I was explaining. I've tried it before. since the map will have under .w3x it will be TFT settings. Now if it were to be saved as a .w3m then it would use ROC settings, but once you play it in TFT, the settings go back to TFT and not ROC unfortunately.

instead i have to manually change everything back to the ROC settings. If I could have both editors at the same time, it would be much easier.

Thanks for an info. I just didn't realize that since I briefly watched one of YouTube videos regarding that trick long time ago.

But again, that's only for the older WC3 patches. If you're using the later patches or Reforged, it won't work as both ROC and TFT clients were merged into the unified one.

The World Editor has always merged to be one editor...
the only way to ever have an ROC editor is to NOT have TFT. The ROC World Editor became obsolete once TFT came out.

Reforged didn't change this as the World Editor as it has always been a separate client, even before reforged they stopped using MPQ and switch to CASCE Files.

On the latest patch you could do this
Make sure not to add TfT/non-RoC material and the map will save as .w3m.
This is awesome, however... it doesn't reset the models back to ROC.
Models changed in TFT:
Humans:
  • Grocopter - changed to Flying Machine
  • Steam Tank - changed to Siege Tank
  • Priest - uses Blood Elf Model
  • Sorceress - uses Blood Elf model
Orcs:
  • Headhunter - uses TFT Model
  • Catapult - changed to Demolisher
Night Elf:
  • Ballista - changed to Glaive Thrower
Undead:
  • Lich - changed to TFT Model
Neutral:
  • Fel Stalker - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Tiderunner - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Huntsman - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Nightcrawler - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Plaguebearer - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Flesheater - uses TFT Model
  • Murloc Mutant - uses TFT Model

I guess, that has to, at least for now, be manually changed in each unit's object editor
You could open up a thread about this on the official forums.
correct, but once you manual change it it becomes an expansion-only map and you can no longer use ROC data settings.

I was talking to W3C admins about this setting for their ROC Ladder maps, they explained it to me as why they don't use the same settings

I'm being told the ROC data doesn't apply for all units and missile arts, such as the Ballista for example:
Indeed. It might be some bug which came with patch updates. Otherwise, it would be pretty much RoC.
Might have something to do with the excel tables or whatever kind they are with unit stats and details that got overwritten, moved or deleted and the game/editor can't find the Ballista and Catapult.

I found a solution to my problem!

Normally I use World Editors from Warcraft III (Classic). I found out that if I run my ROC World Editor, I can also open up the YDWE PK (World Editor) and that pulls from the TFT World Editor. This allows me to have 2 World Editors open at the same time!
