Switch shading

Hey folks.

I have a problem finding the correct tool (or method) for switching shading. Dark -> light, light -> dark.

A simple example:


In case I want the darker side switched with the lighter.

This example would not be so much of a hassle to just redo it. But imagine a more complex image.

Assuming you're using Photoshop, you can duplicate the layer, invert it, and set its blend mode to luminosity. If you don't want the background to change as well, you'll have to make sure the things that you want to change are on a separate layer, or you'll have to touch it up a bit after.

I'm using GIMP but I assume this is possible nevertheless.
