Basically I've duplicated the Medivac Heal ability, including the actors, sounds and models but when my unit uses the new ability no heal beam will appear but the visual effect and sound on the unit will appear. Unfortunately the sound and the effect do not go away after the ability is finished, whats gone wrong?

i believe that the problem lies in what things it is that gets duplicated. i will see if i find out more though.(at the moment i dont have exact information about what shouldnt be duplicated as part of the ability.) i cant figure it out. what i have figured out however is that the medivac is rather protected. (i cant even edit its actor due to it being unselectable. by that i mean that it gets deselected after it gets loaded.) i suggest that you either try to duplicate the queens healing ability or build a new ability from scratch. i am unable to help you further in this matter.

andreasaspenberg, you are sprouting nonsense. The medivac unit actor (the actor data for the unit and not its effects or any other actor for it) is perfectly selectable and editable in the data editor. Infact I was viewing it at the time this post was created.

What is most likly happening is your unit using the duplicate medivac ability is lacking vital event respones on its actor that the medivac has. As such it leaks cause the destructor is expecting something to happen that never does.

For the record I am talking about the ChannelStart And ChannelStop events the medivac actor has for when the heal beam ability is used. If your custom healing unit lacks those it is quite possible that the beam is not created properly and that the animation does not get deconstructed when the spell is finished.

Additionally there might be incorrect referencing in some of the other actor's events leading to the orignal medivac.

i tried to select the medivac actor myself but the editor wouldnt let me keep it selected. the game will be released tomorrow so then the editor will most likely be better. as for the problem the original ability works fine on a custom unit. it is the duplicated ability that doesnt.
