Is it possible to change a spell that targets a single unit to one where i set the position where the spell should be cast without an enemy unit like flamestrike?

Use channel as the base ability, that is the only way.

It is called as Point Target spell.

Yeah, the alternative is to use Channel ability (this ability is intended only for trigger-based ability which it does practically... nothing)

Or you can find other base ability such as Flame Strike itself, OR Earthquake but it is channeling, so you must find another ability, the best way is Channel nevertheless
