SKIBBI ADVENTURE

"Play as Skibbi, young sporeling shaman, through the bizarre adventure of Outland!"

OVERVIEW

A single-player RPG/adventure campaign set down during the events of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.
Discover the Outland: once known as Draenor, now only a mere shell of itself, destroyed by the ambitious and desperate orc chieftain Nerzul during the events of the Second War.
Play as Skibbi, a young sporeling shaman who wants to see the world beyond Zangarmarsh, but is he ready for such a quest?
Explore the broken world, visit dozens of places, meet unusual friends, and strike fearful enemies, as you befriend one human paladin - nothing can stand in your way!

STORY

"Outland is in disarray!
Since the opening of Dark Portal, thousands of adventurers from the so-called Azeroth crossed into a realm unknown, exploring this once majestic world and fighting against the evils of the Burning Legion and the Illidari.
Our story begins at Zangarmarsh, an enigma in this broken world - once a peaceful marsh, now in constant struggle for survival.
As slitherskin aliens started to dry this land, valiant sporelings - natives of this marsh - were lucky to have adventurers on their side.

You are Skibbi, son of Sporeggar Elder. Training as a shaman, you desperately want to see the world outside your homeland.
Neither you, nor anyone else could assume, in what such a little, silly journey could develop..."

OUR HEROES

Skibbi

"His full name is Shkhb'uura-a-Skibbi, but his sister just calls him Skibbi — and so does Sir Justus Prevail, because that’s the best a human tongue can manage. Skibbi doesn’t mind.
Shaman by training, curious by nature, mischievous and protective, thanks to his all-troubling little sister.
Right now he is on another play with Llurri, his sister, but dreams that one day he will see the world beyond."

Sir Justice Prevail

"Paladin with troubled past and unknown future. Member of the ever-growing guild, savior of Azeroth, along with thirty-nine other saviors of Azeroth.
Right now he is on travel to Zangarmarsh for some boring mission, but hey - who knows what he can find at those strange mushroom-land?"

FEATURES

🔮Beyond Reality
Welcome to Outland — once-beautiful Draenor, shattered by one especially ambitious orc.
Journey through the surreal swamps of Zangarmarsh and the charming village of Sporeggar, survive the brutal Hellfire Peninsula, visit the shattered city of Shattrath and its Terokkar Forest, take in the beauty of Nagrand, soar over Blade’s Edge Mountains, and follow the arcane echoes into the Netherstorm.
Each zone has its own magic, stories, and surprises.

🍄 The Most Unlikely Team
A righteousness-obsessed paladin. A curious, naïve mushroom creature.
One’s all grit and holy fury, the other’s all spores and wonder.
Together, they’ll forge a bond through absurdity, chaos, and danger.
Real friendships are tested in real trouble.

⚔️ Adventure Awaits!
Explore hand-crafted “micro” locations, with a blend of adventure, humor, and dungeon-crawling.
Faire rings in Zangarmarsh?
Branching choices in Hellfire Peninsula?
Dragon flights in Blade’s Edge?
Dark secrets in Terokkar?!
This isn’t just another open plan - this is content with flavor.

LITTLE FAQ

What is this all about?
A single-player, linear adventure campaign, focused on showcasing "what was going on" during the Burning Crusade addon, just in parallel. Expect to see iconic locations, fight with different bosses, meet unusual races, and so on. More details later!
Right now, you can play the first mission of this campaign, featuring Zangarmarsh. I hope that you'll like it and I'm looking forward to hear your opinions.

How long will it be?
I plan to account for all WoW Outland locations except for Shadowmoon Valley, so 5-6 chapters at least. They will include Zangarmarsh, Hellfire Peninsula, Terokkar Forest, Blades Edge Mountains, Nagrand, and Netherstorm.
Please note that they won't be represented at full, meaning big empty maps. I aim to use interesting parts of each location and wrap our story around it, with fixes towards playability and fun.

When full release?
After finishing and polishing all maps.

Aren't you ambitious again?
Well, we will see. I won't make any time promises by now, just occassionetly drop updates here.

I have a problem/I have an idea/Would you like to...
Don't be shy - just drop it down here and I will try to answer you.

I'd appreciate any bug reports, suggestions, and tips!
Write them down here!

Skibi really let herself go after we defended her goshdanged castle

Got one more B, shrunk and mutated from all those shrooms corrupting forces around the castle.
Pure coincidence with her! Now I feel that I should add an easter egg about her inside the campaign...
At least not comparing to skibidi dop dop yes yes, progress.
LoL. I thought, oh noes, another Garithos afflicted campaign but it just looks like him.
Other than that, I feel sorry for your other unfinished projects :p
And... are you using some of @Maxwell's maps?
1751652522827.png

Well, while he looks like one particular grand marshal of Alliance, moreover, he even fought by his side - he is more paladin. Typical Scarlet Crusade troubled paladin, details later.
About projects: don't worry, eventually they will be done: as part of something else or more. :)
About @Maxwell: No, I didn't used his map or do not plan to use them by any chance for now. But I used some of the resources from his Zangarmarsh map (I will update credits a bit later), like Sporebat skin and some doodads. Some doodads are exported from WoW.
First chapter - "Welcome to a World of Sporecraft" - based on a loose recreation of the Zangarmarsh location near Sporeggar, home of sporelings.
I hope that I've clarified that.

News of development:
  1. Chapter 2 is in active development! First adventure of Skibbi will be in recognizable landscapes of Hellfire Peninsula, with all those hellish skyboxes, demons, fel boars, and of course, fel reaver.
Along with Paladin - Sir Justice Prevail - you will meet with majestic draenei, clear corruption, tame the Spirit of Flames, and battle against fearsome Fel Reaver. And much, much more.
  2. Chapter 2 is divided into 2 parts:
    1. First map will be on the main Peninsula part, featuring dozens of new characters and battle against Burning Legion, ending near their demonic portal to...
    2. Throne of Kil'jaeden, which will be part 2 of this chapter! Here you will face iconic Doomlord Kazzak and... Something else.
  3. Like chapter 1, chapter 2 will have its distinctive feature, and I call it: "Path of Heroes".
In short, you will be able to choose in which way you will defeat fearful Fel Reaver. Think about the derivative pre-final mission on Char in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Moreover, this choice will give you different special heroes and offer different main quests, visiting different map areas, and facing different characters.

Progress Note:
Right now, I have completed:
  • All the required lore and story stuff for this chapter.
  • All optional quests - there is secret stuff, so get ready.
  • Nearly all new playable heroes.
  • All mini-bosses that the player will find in Part 1, "To Hellfire and Back";
  • All normal enemies: expect hidden mini-bosses, too!
  • Chapter affixes. What do you think of recurring miniboss?

When chapter 2 is ready, I will release it to you.

What do you think of that?
I will gladly read your impressions, answer your commentaries, suggestions, likes, and dislikes.

Thank you for your attention, see you soon!

I just remembered that I forgot to give feedback again . The background music is as suitable as ever, but I must say that compared to the main character, the NPC (forget name) for the main quest seems more like a spore person; the current model makes me feel more like a murloc. In addition, I suggest giving the optional quest NPC a exclamation mark; I thought he was in the wild, only to discover at the end that he was in the starting location. The overall difficulty is not high; as long as you keep using summons, there is basically no chance of failure. ...

Thank you for your feedback!
  • About models: sporeling models are quite limited, so using their WoW model for all NPCs would make them hard to distinguish. The Murloc model is a compromise for that.
  • What do you mean by "mark"? Sporeggar Hunters have a mark over their heads.
  • Regarding difficulty, balance will be tweaked extensively during development. I want to ask you - on what difficulty level did you play? The higher the difficulty, the more affixes it applies to enemies.

I mean that xx trader (buy thing from him)
normal difficulty,I think it is easy

As development of Chapter 2 continues, I would like to ask you about loot.

LOOT IDEA - BADGES:

You see - I'm not a fan of placing dozens of treasure chests or crates that contain healing runes, dozens of on-board consumables, but I dislike design when you need to wait for spell/resource refreshment. If using runes, then use them only at crucial checkpoints or after defeating valuable enemies.

I'm aiming to bring this campaign closer to dungeon crawler than Rexxar-like RPG, since our enemies won't respawn, using the following map as an example:

My main question is - what do you think about collecting, let's say, badges, from which you can buy specific items in different chapters? I mean - you can save them through the campaign and await the latest chapter to buy 1 cool item.
Yes, powerful enemies and bosses will drop different items (sometimes random, most of the time - not); you can exchange them for badges.
Gold is used for potions and other stuff like usable items and doesn't transfer between chapters.

Progress Note:

In addition to previous parts, I:
  • Slightly redesigned chapter 2.
  • Completed our chapter-specific playable side heroes.
I will release this chapter for public when it will be ready.

Small development log

While I'm still busy with my IRL problems and other things to do like studies, I slightly updated Skibbi's first chapter, tweaking starting area and starting quest. Nothing major, but this is an update anyway.
Sooner or later, I will update the campaign file so you can experience it on your own, but now... Screenshots!

Updated chapter 1 will be released here, if nothing stops me and no one, by the end of this month, November.
What about chapter 2 and beyond? Well, some stakes have changed, so expect it later next year.
Probably in early 2026.

Until next time, stay safe!

Actually, I did manage to check up on everything before the end of this month, and since I have something prepared for my different WC3 maps, I'm not sure I'll be able to post a new Skibbi version by the end of the month (energetic situation, khm-khm)....
So I drop it...
TODAY!
The new walkthrough video will be added in the near future, and I will update this post and topic.
Content of this small update:

  • Balance tweaks;
  • New items and tweaks to others;
  • Remade the starting experience
  • ...And something probably more, I don't know :p

Enjoy and know - I will gladly read all of your suggestions, propositions, and reviews. And will try to answer them all.

Until next time, stay safe!

EDIT:
Video walkthrough is here!

more complex boss battles and encounters and perhaps something unexpected, surprising.
And I took that personally. (c)

I know - it's been a while since I dropped some news about our little sporeling adventure, but during this hiatus (and when I had enough electricity, thanks to blackouts and shortages), I did microscopic things, like:

  • Developed my own Knockback, Missile 3D, Homing Missiles, Charge and Rush, and VisualBeam systems;
  • Rewrote most of the spells into vJass.
  • Developed my own "Tactical AI" system, where bosses and elites would use their abilities and acts by accouting different modes - some abilities will target heroes, some - farthest, some - to hit clusters.
  • Got inspired myself by Terraria and made something like its Creep AI System - for example, an enemy with "Worm AI" would try to burrow and emerge under you, casters could try to keep distance between you and them, chargers - well, charge into you. (plz note that DOESN'T mean that ALL enemies will have special AI - it's way too overkill)
  • Completely remastered all spells for Skibbi, his paladin friend Justice, and developed 2 additional heroes, based upon Aldores & Scryer rivalry during WoW TBC...
  • Each elite enemy (aka hero) will have scripted stuff to fight, have a leash system (meaning that you cannot kite them through the whole map), and try to utilize different stuff. Stuff that hits the ground will be telegraphed.
  • Wanted to recreate one boss fight from WoW Classic: Supreme Lord Kazzak. And managed to do that easily.
  • And much, much more...
  • Once again, reworked chapter 1 and started to do Hellfire Peninsula from "scratch". Implemented new affixes - but that's another story.
Okay, enough talking, let's start teasing stuff one by one.
Let's take a closer look at bare stuff, showcased on the testing grounds
Supreme Lord Kazzak Versus Heroes of Azeroth

Fen Strider Punishes Enemies Badly

Tentacles? They can burrow?!

I wish I could show even more stuff like remastered heroes:
Paladin casually swirls hammers around himself, with collision

The priest throws a star, which rolls forward and back
...But that's the tale of another story. Don't wanna overwhelm you at first.
I will gladly read all of your suggestions, propositions, and reviews. And will try to answer them all.

Until next time, stay safe!

Guess what?

I'm back, and I have, once again, a new playable version for the first chapter of Skibbi Adventure.
Why am I releasing it again, for the third time?

Well, it got changed a lot, once again:
Playable on the latest Warcraft 3 Reforged version.
Classic graphics only.
  • Skibbi got a full mechanical rework: he got a new spell kit, pretty fun and with a lot of synergies. Skibbi is not a mere shaman - he is Mycomancer now. The sporeling version of shamanism involved using natural power and the magic of death simultaneously. You can hurl vampiric acid into enemies, turn them into your own slaves, siphon from their corpses, or even transform into a powerful bog creature!
  • In addition, Skibbi's totem got replaced with elementalistic spores, one of which you will unlock in this first chapter.
  • New items to be utilized!
  • New enemies to fight. Scripted enemies! What about the lurking naga? Or charging basilisk?
  • New bosses! I wonder how many attempts it will take you to defeat Fen Strider on Hard?
  • New affixes! Yes, I like this difficulty-enhancing stuff, so I once again remade them.
  • And much, much more - from technical aspects.
Since the campaign was basically remade, I want to hear YOUR opinion about this chapter iteration. To see if its good to continue the campaign in that format, to create more similar stuff here, in Skibbi Adventure, or elsewhere.

If you have any problem, want to suggest an idea, or have feedback, please comment it here or via DM, I will gladly answer them all.

Until next time!
