Signatures cut off?

For some reason, if I try to make a signature with an image, if the image is too large it gets cut off at a certain point. It doesn't do this in the preview of my signature in the User CP, only on actual posts. I've seen this on other signatures too.

It doesn't say I can't make a signature that big, it's just that it doesn't display the whole of a big signature. Is there a setting I can change to see big signatures or not?

Also, I read the Reputation FAQ and saw that the reason I'm seeing cookies and cakes is because of my theme. To see the gems I have to change to the Night Elf theme.
Now personally, I prefer the cakes and stuff since it's easier to see which person has more rep (the gems are only colour coded). However, if, in the future, I wanted to see the gems, would it be possible to make them appear while still using the Terran (Beta) theme? I prefer this since the Night Elf theme feels a bit cluttered, and is generally more distracting. I like Terran (Beta) better because although it's sleek and not distracting it still looks cool.

Anyway, if anyone could answer one or both of these questions that would be cool.

All or at least most of sites have signature size limitation to avoid large, annyoing signatures. you can't change that as far as I know...

No you can't. And as far as I know the guys in charge of themes are pretty lazy, if you want to see some kind of changes in layout/interface/whatever, you'll have to wait. few years, maybe.

No, I didn't expect you could do either, but just thought to check. Kinda sucks, I had a real cool siggy, I might still use it but it'll probably be a bit hard to read if I have to shrink it...

+rep for answering though.

I don't really mind. As I said I find it much easier to distinguish than the coloured gems.

Not at all, but if it's that big you should just link to it with perhaps a preview image.

Good idea. I'll give it a go tomorrow (can't be stuffed today).

The cookies were an April Fool's prank, the Terran theme had the site's old gems for rep until then - it was changed back on the night elf theme, but not the terran theme it still seems.

Its a good thing there are size limits in the signatures because you know, we only talk about stuffs, serious stuffs, not feeding threads with over sized signatures that only shows "Hello".

EDIT:
but I do feel something about it, but the only way to save a good sized signatures is by resizing or cropping the width into 600 and the height in 120 like this:

attachment.php

and about your second question, I don't know :ogre_hurrhurr:

I suppose. Still, a feature where you can choose to see massive signatures or cut them off would be cool. They already have a feature to disable them as a whole.

By the way Orcnet, I probably will resize my signature to a comfortable size like that when I get round to actually doing it :ogre_hurrhurr:

About avatars... with the right images, I can make my own. I put my spinning Luigi together myself using sprites ripped from the game. I'm planning to start work on a dizzy Luigi today.

I think that shrinking the Dilbert comic and linking to it (as Bribe suggested) would be sufficient. However, I might make a request later on when I get sick of it

By the way, is that where WherewolfTherewolf got that "randomly generated animated pony" thing?

Erm... thank you Ralle?
So does it still work with signatures or Wherewolf found a new source of randomness?

As Orcnet said, it apparently still works with sigs.

It's pretty cool too! Even though I can't have random avatars (like switching between Mario and Luigi), maybe I can have random Dilbert comics?

By the way, when I said this:

...is that where WherewolfTherewolf got that "randomly generated animated pony" thing?

I was actually referring to the animated ponies, I didn't mean to focus the conversation on randomizing images

Not exactly, I was simply curious if Wherewolf got it from those links you gave me.

Understand?

The cookies/cakes and muffins are a little weird - I too am a tad surprised they've not been reverted yet - maybe they were overwritten accidentally and someone lost the backups? ^_^

It would be feasible to allow a user to choose between rep icons on a single theme but it's not a native option to vb, so I can't see that happening :p

They're all from this program: http://desktopponies.co.cc/

The reason Ralle didn't like it in avatars is because as you've probably noticed, the site doesn't direct link avatars but instead downloads them and resizes them in it's own database - this is the reason that gifs have to be sized right when they're uploaded or they won't animate, or why other things occasionally mess up with avatars if you don't have them the right size when you upload or link them. Since you can't hotlink avatars, to get a randomized avatar you had to instead get an administrator to use a little html code in your user title to have that display the image from the randomizer instead of a normal avatar. I don't think Ralle was completely aware of how it was done exactly until Joe changed his random avatar to display both the random one, and a normal avatar which soon after he cracked down on them.

Thing is you can hotlink images normally in your signature so there's nothing wrong with using that site to randomize your sig for that.

Talking about HTML, it's a bit stupid/weird/annoying that you're forced to use BBCode in your posts. I mean, OK, for people who know nothing (or very little) of HTML it's handy since it's easy to use, but wouldn't an HTML tag be nice? And I don't mean the existing HTML tag, I mean one that would make any HTML between them "work".

Maybe it's just VB that made it so, but can't Ralle make/enable something like this? And if he can, why isn't it here? I don't see how it could hurt.

Well, there's no real problem, but I'm just curious. If HTML was possible, then I could, I don't know, resize my signature image with the <img> tag? Apparently in some forums this is possible with BBCode, but not here.

But page distortion is a good point. I suppose that if someone wanted to, they could do some really nasty stuff to a really nice thread. Like, overwrite the favicon or something...

So can BBCode.

MALWARE!!!

But seriously... OK, I understand why HTML isn't used. But is there a way to turn on width and height attributes in the tags? I've Googled and apparently they are available on [B]some[/B] forums.

If it can be turned on Ralle really should turn it on, it would help quite a bit.

Well it's not bad, just bothersome. Like if I find a pic on the web, I have to download it, resize it, then upload it to somewhere, then link it. Also, if I'm not sure what the maximum height of the signature is, I might have to resize and upload the image multiple times. With height and width attributes this would be much easier.

I mean, I'll probably resize images manually if necessary, it's just I don't see a reason that this shouldn't be available if it's not difficult to do.

You are obviously a newcomer, since otherwise you would've been used to the Night Elf theme and wouldn't let go of it in any way.
The orbs have been around since Elenai gave them to us a few years ago. Before that, we had pentagonal gems.

that's because people who like the nightelf theme which are way more (proven with my poll :p) won't come here anymore because the terran theme scares them away

I think maybe Terran became default last year or something? I mean, I can set it to NE and then it'll stay like that, but when I registered it was just Terran.

I don't even like Night Elves that much. I mean, they have cool features (like uprootable structures), but on the whole they're my least favourite race. If there was an Orc theme I'd do that.

Yeah, thought it might be that...

By the way, since you're here, I'll take the chance to thank you on the work you did on some of those SoC models (Gryphon Rider, Knight and Paladin), even if that was some time ago. I'm using them in my maps and they're awesome.

Of course, BBCode [I]is[/I] HTML - The point behind it is that you can only use HTML - Through BB codes, you can't just start using marquee, iframe and other objects etc that might mess the forum and/or it's layout up.

So adding the width/height should be feasible, you'd just need three assigned parameters instead of the one URL one. Although whether or not it should be done or whether anyone here would do it is another question entirely!

Well, it'd be nice if anyone takes the time, but if not it's not that bad. As I said, there's nothing bad about resizing them myself, I just need to be stuffed enough to do it XD
