I've made alot of maps while being bored and in a creative mood without any particular goal. I also got tired of working on a map/concept quickly, so I made more maps.
I found a so-called solution for this by making a huge map with mini-games, such as
~5 arenas with different themes/features with small tournaments with free-for-all or teambased gameplay. Most arenas could also be played as CTF, ZM, or Monster Zerg. Features often included theme-based traps and powerups.

A huge town for ZM.

An even bigger, casual and shiny AoS-map with the possibility to select armies to spawn =).

A HLW-thingy.

A Dungeon.

The Game starts with you picking a hero(there's a LOT), each divided into (Ranged+Melee)x(Int+Agi+Str)=6 categories and 4 sub-categories for each element (W,E,F,W). Each of these with different traits (Int has 500 mana instead of 300 i.e. If you want to pick Ranged Agility (Fire), then every hero within that category is just a cosmetic choice)
Then you buy spells. Everyone can buy everything so there's room for alot of customisation. Each element (W,E,F,W) however has 1 (of 10) Spell-shop for their own (Because I wanted to use Impale to many spells =P).

Then you go and pick your game. When the match is over, you redo it.

That's the old map. I've been working on it for a few years tbh, not taking it TOO seriously. Now however I want to get back to the editor, but it REALLY old, and I found that:
What's the point in making a game that isn't satisfying nor fun to play?
Because it wasn't! After playing D3 (or any game), my spells was boring, as was the whole map.

Now, I need either an Idea how to make my map Fun to play, or if it's necessary, a new idea for a map that's Fun to play (casually) (The Warlock games where fun, but didn't have much too it. I want something bigger.

Do not compare your map to D3 or any game, you have to be sure what you want to accomplish. I suggest not to throw away your years of work, but separate it to different parts.

Pick one arena, and start to think about the gameplay: How you want it to be. In my opinion, shorter but challenging games are more fun to play, than neverending, or easy maps.
Then try to put in reality what gameplay you got in your mind. Just the simplest things first. If you got a playable part of your arena, try to expand it, and enchant it with optional things.

With the lot of heroes and terrain you made, it would be a shame to throw away. If you are stuck in your way in the gameplay, try to figure out where was the leak.

Maybe it wasn't a big help, but this is what i think about big maps.

Actually, I'm surprised that the first post on my thread was this helpful! "shorter but challenging games are more fun to play, than neverending, or easy maps." <--- That's a great tip!

Don't be afraid to make me throw away my work - If a new map is the better choice, then it's gonna happend! I can simply copy-paste parts of my old map if necessary.

First of all, this map is everything but shallow, it's very very deep ! really, in terms of skills and strategies

Also, you can make custom terrains which are not very balanced but very funs (with a lot of ice) check warlockbrawl forum

What is ZM ?

We may need more informations to help you, what you wanna do NOW ?
a map that is fun to play... Every map has this goal, so I could tell you to make anything lol

The casual aspect is interesting.

I personnaly think that what makes maps interesting is either an original gameplay (for example MAFIA, Assassination Round), an original theme (Battle Royales maps, with 1 life only), or original spells (Warlock is the best example, but there are also Ninja vs Samurai, Archery wars, Blades N gore).

So from what you already thought of, you would like to make 5 modes with same abilities, so you need to make them very fun to play, they should combine together, have multiple effects or necessits to aim instead of auto targeting.

Well thats all i can say, it's not very helpful i guess (maybe it's a total waste of time haha) but it also bumps the topic up, so people may help you better :p
