I was bored so I opened gimp and made some 64x64 pictures from scratch, I was pretty surprised by the outcome since last time I made something it totally failed, I guess the art lectures at school help out pretty much :p This is what i made

the texture for the bear would be best applied to a lower res model.
the shape is rather blob-like, try looking through the icon section for some highly detailed icons. Most have a base image that is significantly larger, and less detailed up close, to give it a sharper look once shrunk down.

So far, though, you're on the right track, though I would tone down the glow off the icons a bit.
