Hiho, I'm thinking of making a roleplaying map, much like "life of a peasant" but much more seriously made and with alot more feeling into it.

What will be main focus is the roleplaying and areas, terraining will be a great part of it.

This is NOT an rpg where you level your character and get items etc.
It's pure roleplaying!

The time will be medieval / fantasy and you start out as a very normal person without a job so basicly you can choose your own path very freely.

I guess there could be quests and such but there will be none where you need to go kill some boss and save the world!!!!!! style.
Probaly things like... letter delivery to far off places and such ^^
I have not thought much about well, anything yet. I have just started with the idea so basicly, any new ideas are welcome!

If you are intrested in joining such a project, goto the "Project Recruitment" forum and reply!

And what is the setting you're doing it in? Medieval times? Fantasy? Or a scifi setting? We need a bit more info before starting the ideas :D

Well heres some ideas for jobs.
Rat Catcher
Go around the town killing/catching rats (to stop the vermin from etc. destroying the grain in a granary), after you've enough money you can buy and release an autonomous cat/employee/little boy :D to go around doing the dirty work (keep in mind that they will need feeding/paying and rest). After you've then earned enough money to buy the shop you can start employing more and more people. When you're the manager you can start making a rat catching industry by buying the other rat catcher shops around the town to add to your company. In the end you'll be the big manager of the company and you basically won't need to do anything;the money'll keep on coming.

Shopkeeper
You start off by organizing the shelves and stuff and gradually get better jobs and money as it was with the rat catcher. After you buy the shop you get to mploy ppl etc. etc. to bring variety I'd suggest something like haggling from merchants that come only every 10 mins or so to the market, the best goods at the best price, also you could add "seasons" of stuff being liked by people and bought and other stuff being disliked, so you'd have to keep an eye on your supplies.

Miner
Mines ore from mines and has to keep looking for the best veins. after getting enough money can buy the firm etc. etc. to make this one unique might be making contracts with smelteries and mercenaries to protect your ore shipments to town.

Merchant
You start off heping your employer in getting the stuff to town before it goes bad. Again after you've got enough money you can buy your own pack mule and start buying stuff and selling it to another town. Special stuff is haggling, buying mercenaries to protect your caravan and bribing town authorities into making faster roads etc.

Man-at-arms
You start off guarding a simple post at some wall or battlements and every now and then a wave of monsters comes and you have to defend the town. After being in the job for a while you get promoted: first to bowman then ballista/catapult operator then gatekeeper then cavalry then captain (you get a few troops to go around with) then something that is higher ranked and you get more troops and finally you'll be a general leading your army (possibly into war against another nation or town)

Mercenary
His job is to guard stuff like caravans and mining shipments and maybe even shops or such if it is deemed necessary. His goal is to either become a legendary mercenary who will be paid loads for even simple tasks, or become a Hero of the people by joining the war effort and tilting the scale to either nations side. (note that there should be hireable mercenaries for traders and such even if no one chooses to be a mercenary + there should always be jobs for the mercenaries from NPCs)

Theres just a few examples. if you find them to be of your liking, I'll edit in Bandit, Mercenary, Smelter etc. etc. you can put more emphasis on minigames and such if you like, but I always like grand scale :D

Humm, some of it sounds good but I'd rather not take things like the defender etc, I don't want this to be another "fight monsters, get better" game.
Ofcourse you should be able to defend yourself etc. against things like... boars and bandits or so but you should only be as strong as a normal human.

The other stuff sounds okay tho.

the point of man-at-arms is that once you get past the boring bits, you'll eventually get to LEAD AN ARMY woohoo! and quite possibly even against another faction!

...aand give +rep to helpful people

This is a list for some any jobs:
Prison watcher
Some guy who must watch out of npc or another players who now sitting in prison. Night is more dangerous time!
Arena gladiator
People fighting in arena. Can be impoved by ranks
I think do not use shopkeeper as a job. Maybe anyone can sell what are they harvest? And make harvest skills cathegory not included in jobs may be it will an another point player can choose? Harvesting verbs, fish, anyone can make someone useful from it etc.?

Have you in mind to create a bank? where you can place your stuff. Or maybe some questes, no xp, just gold. Fx. You have to find some rare reagents. Like a special green plant.
They tells you where to go, like; "You should be able to find the plant southwest from the town somewhere." Or job as miner, in a cavern you can join them in the hunt for diamonds or something.

Thanks for the ideas, gonna write those I think are good in a .txt ^^

Also, I think I will make the game similar to "Oblivion" but without unhuman powers and monsterkilling ^^
