Roguecraft v88g (Map)

Reviews
Innovative idea. I've played similar custom games on Warcraft 3 before, but this one beats those all. Love the amount of work you've put into it. To my surprise, I didn't spot any bug in it. It is very enjoyable and fun. Please continue to work on...
Gave this game another whirl, but I think the changeling is really bugged. At some point he randomly got -10 armor and became useless for the rest of the run, since he'd die in like one hit.
Found one potential cause! One item provides -10 armor, but +40 attack damage. When a changeling is carrying this, the -10 armor would carry over when it would transform. I've made a fix for this for the next version. Thanks for the heads up.

It's kinda like Cavern of Chaos, heroes and bosses are nice. But enemies are dull -- I only saw skeletons.
Level 19 trap is extreme, it should appear in mini-game or slide map.
And rooms are just too small and dark, make me feel like fighting in tunnel.

Anyway it's a nice map. Looking forward to future updates.

Such a fun and entertaining map! I am really glad I stumbled upon it. I am sure it was a lot of work put into it!

I love this map so much it is very exciting and hooking, but I have a question, when I was playing warlock and I had that ability to summon skeletons, I can go through "trap level" or "level of traps" using skeleton while my hero stays at the beginning in safety, when skeleton reaches the finish level is completed, so should it be like that or it is just to fix one little thing? Actually, I though about this one more time and I can say it is not a big deal.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the map! I didn't initially intended for being able to use summons to complete the trap levels, but I think it ended up being fine, as most of the summons are less mobile than the heroes themselves.

Having a lot of fun with the map, but one mode that I would recommend to make it even more fun is some kind of endless mode. Where you start just like in a normal mode, but you can just forever push upgrades and levels for character. Otherwise it feels like many builds that start to function in a fun way are right at the end of the game. When ever you start to get items. That's why some kind of endless normal mode would be fun. Other then that, super fun map, having a lot of enjoyment with it.

Just found a bug in the hardcore mode. When there is a creep 'explosive barrel' modifier, it didn't let the players advance to the level even when all the enemies were killed. Here is the picture along with the replay file.
Same with the mana burn eggs which looped infinitely in normal mode.

idk if it's by bad luck but i keep getting stuck in levels due to the poison bombs not despawning or something

;-; game good but can't progress

EDIT: with the new patch I've been having no troubles so far and thus this game has been at the top of my list to play.

I'll be back to give my thoughts on how the gameplay feels :D

I think that's a great idea. There is currently the arena mode which acts as an endless mode, but maybe I can add an optional way to continue at the end of a regular run. Also, thank you for the feedback!

Sorry about that! It has since been fixed. It was a bug related to the new circle indicators I added to them

One nitpick I have personally, the "Arcane Explosion" or whatever it's called on Q for some mages, it TRIGGERS thorns damage. I've died to the turtle with a buddy SEVERAL times back to back cause of that.
Also the "Changeling" can't get an achievement point for "clear level 10 with no deaths" and the puzzle box always resets, the changing to another hero seems to make it just not.. work.

Thank you for the feedback! Spells triggering thorns is definitely not intended, and the Changeling has been the source of a ton of bugs. I'll try to address both next patch.

I can say that I've played many roguelike maps in Warcraft 3. I'm proud to say that we need more roguelikes, and yours, @D-Gen, is quite a nice example of what we can have without relying on heavy reworking of core gameplay features of the game.
I like how many heroes you present. And having your custom is a nice touch.

I've added a video of my playthrough of your map, maybe you will find it useful :)

Like.

I was playing with a friend, and when we entered the dungeon, even though both of our characters were in the 'BEGIN' position, there were many times when it didn't work, so we had to go back and forth several times each time we started the round.

i played Reforged Ver

Please fix that...

Other than that, we really enjoyed playing it.

An Endless mode has been added as of the latest update :)

The map is quite fun ! I solo'ed the "normal mode" before trying things in hard mode in endless mode. Even though the major part of my message is a list of problems, I enjoyed it.

Here are the problems I encountered :
Although I encountered a little problem : endless mode finished after some levels, and all final 5-10 final levels were the same layout (big hall with archers behind a hole, and one elevated way on each side).
Also, custom heroes can't select their specialization before the first level.
Agility multiclass specifies it adds "base damage", although it adds bonus damage. It is unclear if bonus damages influences spell damages like earthquake or devour.
Most spells (I'm pretty sure about at least the volcano from shamanic specialization, summoning circle and shade) doesn't do anything if you lose line of sight at any moment, which can make kiting pretty hard.
The door opens on finishing all mobs, but if there is a bomb on death modifier, you must wait the last explosion before entering the circle. The message about the door opening is displaying again, then you can leave.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I added Endless Mode very recently, so it's pretty barebones atm. Definitely going to flesh it out more over the next few versions. Didn't consider the issue with custom heroes before the first level! Ty for letting me know. All abilities that use base damage take bonus damage into account, but I can clarify that on all tooltips that reference it. Most abilities that use it just say "Attack Damage" in the tooltip which should be a bit more clear. The line of sight issue with AoE spells is intentional, as it was possible to infinitely kite enemies by attacking them out of line of sight, but I agree that's not the most elegant solution. Unfortunately, the way units aggro and leash in Wc3 engine is a bit jank. I also didn't catch the last issue with bombs triggering the level complete message twice. Endless Mode probably has a lot of minor bugs like that. Really appreciate hearing things like this! I'm glad you had fun! Thanks again for feedback.

This is an awesome map. I created an account just to leave a review for this map.

My friends and I just finished up playing this tonight and had a blast. Friday night, got maybe 1.5 hours into a good game of Roguecraft.

Props to everything that went into it. It's our new favourite map.

Do you have a Discord server or anything? I want to ask for tips / hints on some of the achievements, the lever, the code, where to find the secret hero select spot, etc., but I'm not sure if this is the right forum to discuss it. We didn't have any luck finding any of these things in our run, and really curious to find them.

Also, is there a way to save/load a run? Does the "save" feature of the game work (haven't tried loading with friends yet)?

Thank you so much! I don't have a discord server, but feel free to add me on Discord. I sent you a DM. There's currently no way to save a run, but it's something I've considered. It will be a bit tough because the game can be 1-4 players though.

Hi, played your map with my brother. We thought it was enjoyable experience, custom heroes are nice and you can really make builds that go well together, base heroes are generally fun too. One thing I am not sure whether is fine is that once on Changeling my character just disappeared, but that wasn't really a big deal. Our endless mode run however always ended at level 20 (we always had one custom hero at least). It did show us we could pick between some rewards for clearing the floor, but the game restarted. Is the mode not meant to be endless? I was wondering how far I could get with my builds and thought the mode was for that.
