Requiem

An idea of a map i had, focused on three factions and themed a lot on gothic science fiction, particularly about death and the afterlife. the three factions are the United Colonies Defense, the Tal'huri, and the Zion. The Tal'huri represent the digital evolution of humanity. The Zion represent the recycling of life and organisms. The UCD represents corruption as a result of the hubris of man when it tries to toy with death.

Gameplay would be like a tactical squad RTS, akin to Dawn of War in a multitude of ways. But there will also be some unit micro-management involved, and the map will focus on almost no sort of base building, but instead focus on the action on the battlefield. Techtrees are incredibly condensed; each faction has the following and only the following; Light Infantry, Heavy Infantry, Light Auxillary, Heavy Auxillary, Aerial Unit. However there will be individual unit upgrades (upgrades that only affect 1 unit/squad) which give each unit different roles so you essentially have like 12 different units per faction. Resource collection is based more on combat than sitting at your base and harvesting a resource. Resources will most likely be generated, or earned through kills.

The United Colonial Government is formed in 2075, after a political war between the United Nations (advocating a 1 government rule of earth) and the Alliance of Independent Soverignties (fighting for separate countries and cultures), where the UN wins and the Earth is unified under the UCG.

The discovery of 'spectres', gifted individuals with the ability to see the dead, is made in 2128. Radiation emitted from spectres was recorded and reproduced to develop the first Spacial-warp engine, allowing the colonisation of more distant planets.

The UCG colonises 'Fringe', a planet on the outskirts of the Erebos Star System, in 2247. Over a century, the planet undergoes mass terraforming and huge urbanisation to become the capital world of the UCG in the Erebos System. Its distance from Earth is approximately 23.61 light years. As of 2347, Fringe has a human population of 343 million.

Strange radiation emmitted by Fringe's core allows a major scientific discovery to be made. The 'soul' is scientifically proven, and Spectres can enter an entirely different realm of existence, known as 'Requiem'. In Requiem, Spectres can see the souls of recently deceased individuals, and time passes marginally slower.

However, within Requiem, first contact is made with a highly advanced race known as the Tal'hur. The Tal'hur, a race of digitally-constructed machine-like beings, deem humanity's entrance into the Requiem as sacreligious, as they believe that Requiem is a realm for only digital information, and that organics violate that belief. The Tal'hur wage war on humanity.

5 years have passed, it is 2352. The United Colonial Defense forces of humanity have poured large numbers of resources in holding Fringe, which is under heavy attack by Tal'hur forces. But just as it looked hopeless for the world's survival, a new xenos arose. The Zion awoke from beneath the ground. They soon joined the war with the UCD and the Tal'hur.

The Zion are a mysterious and highly destructive bio-mechanical race. The super-nova of a distant star however destroys nearly all human and Tal'hur reinforcements in space. Now it is a seemingly chaotic deathmatch for who will claim Fringe. But why are the Tal'hur and Zion so intent on taking the planet for their own?

edit: also this project isnt inspired by/got to do with goris' project in any way (i just realised a lot of similarities after typing lol). if anything, i was inspired by halo 4, warhammer 40k, and gears of war.

double edit: if worst comes to worst, i can just rename the project 'fringe'.
