Question About Triggers

My question is, can I with triggers modify values of a spell or a unit?

For example, lets take the Hardened Skin ability. Can I with triggers modify the amount of damage reduced by this ability?

If so, please tell/show me how.

Of a spell, no. But you can increase/decrease level of the spell, replace it by another spell, etc...

Also, for the units, you can change a few things. Life, Mana, Experience (if hero), Animation Speed, Size, Flying Height, Custom Value, etc... and you can also replace it by another unit.
