It's the big day, you are getting your first pokémon. You go to the lab and you see that the Professor isn't there. The assistant says:

"Sorry my friend, the Professor is gone, next spring there will be Pokémon initiation as well, hope to see you here again."

You feel very frustrated and unresigned, and you go outside in the wilds to grab the first wild pokémon you see by yourself, and when you notice, you're hugging an enraged Nidoran female in the high grass. She bites you and someone comes to rescue you. A Magnemite uses a thunder ability and the Nidoran female faints. Then this Nidoran's partner, a male Nidoran, is ouraged for witnessing the scene. You get a bag thrown at your feet with three pokeballs. You look upwards and it is the professor.

"Choose one, fast!"

You have to choose between borrowing a Bulbasaur, a Charmander or a Squirtle. Then you will battle with the Nidoran male.
The Professor remembers about you and that he forgot you.

"That was very good fighting out there, kid. You sure have skills. You know what? i give you that Pokémon! Take care of it"

(You get the pokemon)

"Hmm... You need a Pokédex too, but I don't have one here. You know? go see my grandson, He has one!"

And so you get a quest, to find your rival, and get you Pokédex.
You are going to fight each other. He has an effective Pokémon against you.

You are walking in a canyon between two cities when a male cubone jumps in front of you. He attacks you.

You battle against a level 35 Cubone with unusual abilities and objectives.

If he beats you, he will grab your backpack and will search for something. He doesn't find it, and throw the backpack at your feet, with no losses.
You will find out with the townsfolk that a mysterious cubone has stolen musical instruments from them, specially flutes, and these are found once again in the seashore, sometimes broken.
When you go through a forest, later, if you found out about this Cubone, you will find him trying to steal a flute from a child. The flute has an individual shine.

[hidden="Main Quest - The Skull-Headed Hermit Part 2]
You battle against the Cubone again. Now it is pretty possible to win.

If
you win, the child will give you his Magical Flute as a token of his gratitude, and the Cubone will run.
If you lose, the child will be gone with the flute, and you can try again later, when you pass by there again.

Then, as you link the facts, you will find out that this Magical Flute has something to do with the seashore.
This understanding is essential to the Dragonite's Quest.
Basically, the flute is the reward for this quest, as well as the Cubone's stolen things, maybe Hm's or Tm's.
