Hello! I am IceSandlash, also known elsewhere as Slayer95. As this is my first thread, allow me to preface with an introduction.
Like many of us, I first got my hands dirty on WorldEdit when I wasn't even a teen yet. While I made a triggered Altered Melee map back then with which I was kinda satisfied, I first stopped developing it because of a sheer lack of information (without reliable Internet access almost two decades ago). Fast forward a decade, and I resumed its development a summer, but alas a hard disk crash forced me to halt development again!
So, this year I got back at WC3, and I thought a few things:
Now, I don't want to make this into yet another whinning thread, but it turned out that, despite the above list, there were enough bad things about Reforged that forced me to keep playing good old 1.26. So, I started a quest to implement the good things of 1.36, that is, the game mechanics, in the 1.26 game engine. While I sometimes feared that one of the changelog entries that I tagged with a red ! mark would turn out to be a blocker, Project Evergreen took shape in a few weeks, and I initially prepared to release Evergreen 16 here. However, I decided to keep polishing it, and eventually crossed into 1.36.1 timeline, once more uplifting the "90/10 rule" (90% of the work gets done in 10% of the time).
After all this time, and because the version number has reached another power of 2, I am now satisfied enough to release it to the larger public.

Project Evergreen features:
- Compatibility with versions 1.26 to 1.36.2.21228.
- Classic graphics.
- Game mechanics from the latest patch, 1.36.2.21228.
- Anonymization in Free For All matches.
- Fully-detailed observer interface.
- Countdown timer on game start.
- Goblin Merchants are stocked twice on items that it should after the initial cooldown. To buy the second set of Boots of Speed, Staff of Teleportation, or Tome of Retraining, please type the commands -bb, -bs, -bt, into ally, or observer chat.
- Custom commands to control the camera, surrender, or customize AI difficulty: -zoom, -gg, -insane, -extra, -legend.
- The awesome new Advanced Melee AI (AMAI 3.3.5), customized to fit the project.
- Game text is fully internationalized. If someone wants to translate these maps to their language, please be my guest.
- Intensely size-optimized maps. This helps prevent counterfeiting with a single glance.
- Optional feature to randomize hero availability, supporting the "Random Heroes" game flag.
- Game mode preselection with HCL. In a bot-hosted lobby: .hcl 1 = Melee, .hcl 23 = Light Melee, etc.
- Compatibility with broken hostbots (GHostOne users will know).
- Map pack includes sha256 cryptographic hashes of the base maps, to aid versioning.
- Map pack includes sha256 cryptographic hashes of the maps themselves, to prevent counterfeiting. They must be manually verified, and cross-verified with the authoritative source, i.e. this thread.
- Map pack includes the entire newest ladder season, plus a custom selection of my favorite maps.
- Map pack is available in .rar format for Windows users, and .zst format for Linux users.
- When newer game patches are released, the project will follow-up.
- WithinRange author: Tasyen.
- Custom Cursor artist: I_H8_U_M8.
- AMAI developers: Strategy Master, Zalamander, and AIAndy.
- Authors of a wide range of tools I have used along this development.
