"Darkness hides the truth"
Nova crept through the dark tunnels, beneath the capital. She had to be discrete, so she had to walk in complete darkness. It was her first mission and she didn't want to fail...
It was a few hours ago. He called her in his private chamber. When she came in, he was sitting, looking through maps and papers. She coughed lightly, and he nodded, not looking away from the papers. After a few minutes, he turned to her and she, like always, was amazed by the faint green glow in his eyes.
"There is something I want you to investigate"
Nova immediatly straightened up. A mission! Finally, she could do something for their purpose.
"There seems to be strange activity in the tunnels beneath the main square. They are far from out escape route or the compound, but we must take precautions. I want you to go and find out, what is going on"
She nodded and went out calmly, only to quickly run after leaving his room. She had to do everything she could.
Now, creeping through the wet tunnels, her enthusiasm was slowly dissolving, until she heard voices and loud knocks. Moving silently, she approached a turn and saw the faint glow of a lamp. In a small tunnel, several men were digging, making the tunnel larger... they were commanded by a man in a white shirt, who looked annoyed. Next to him dozens of barrels stood in a pile. As one of the miners almost tripped on the slippery ground, while carrying another one of these barrels, the man in white hissed loudly.
"You idiot! Watch where you're going! This isnt water, it's explosive sap! You want us killed?"
"Well sorry, but this place is cold and wet as a well" the miner replied loudly.
"Shut up, shut up, shut up!" the taskmaster hissed "Do you want us found?"
"Oh come on. What kind of an idiot would live in these tunnels? I'd pay to see such morons"
Nova, listening to the conversation behind the rock, grit her teeth. She had a sudden wish to slip someone's throat.
"Well of course nobody lives here, but we have to be careful! There are spies everywhere!"
This time Nova grinned. You have no idea, she thought to herself.
As the men went away, she examined the barrels. They really were explosive sap. But why would anyone place explosive sap below the main square? She suddenly noticed a small paper, with salt in it, where the taskmaster stood. She picked it up. Such ritual salts could only be found in one place in the capital - in the temple near the fabric market. The people there, who were mostly from the southern kingdoms, used these salts as a means to repelling dark spirits.
She looked around. What she found out was definetly not enough. The results of her first mission should assure the prophet in her ability to be beneficial to the Cult.
