Option for automatic credits for maps

Hive already has a resources used button that checks what assets from the site are used in the map. Per the rules, I am still required to credit these people in the map description anyway, which for a large map project that's been ongoing for multiple years, is hours of copypasting credits from the resources used section.

A button that just returns all of the assets used and the authors with hyperlinks, easy to copy/paste, would save people a lot of time and make it so other maps aren't as likely to fall victim to being "substandard" because they forgot to include credits to go with the rules of the site.

I tried the asset scanner, but it just gave up because my map is too big. I don't know if that would've made a copypasteable list or not.

No because there are resources that aren't from the site and still need crediting.

Is it optimized/protected?

So, this is the actual problem of the thread, laziness.

Yes, I assumed it went without saying that credits for resources from outside the Hive would still need to be added manually. The exported list would just provide a starting point for the resources the site already knows are being used.

The map is protected, like the vast majority of Warcraft III maps. Despite that, Hive was still able to generate the "Resources Used" list when I submitted it, so the information clearly already exists. I only found out this feature existed because you mentioned it in another thread...

I also tried uploading an unprotected version, but the asset scanner still timed out because of the map's size.

The point of this suggestion isn't to avoid crediting people, it's to make an existing process less repetitive. Hive already detects the resources used in a map, so having a button that exports those resources and their authors in a copyable format would save a significant amount of time, especially for projects with thousands of imported assets. Credits for anything outside Hive could simply be added afterward.

For what it's worth, I already went through and manually copied everything from the "Resources Used" section into my map credits. I'm suggesting this because I think it would make compliance with the site's crediting rules easier for everyone, not because I want to skip the work.

Hive already generates a .html file when you dowload a resource and given that the asset scanner can link to those, it should be easy to combine.

That's noble. Most failing at this are indeed lazy.
You are not.

The only issue I can see is the cases of resources not on Hive and cases where there's false positives, since it just checks file names I imagine there's cases if you import something and name it "StormwindFootman.mdx" in the import manager even if it's an Orc it'll link to a bundle or resource with that file on the hive with that matching file name.

In my own experience whilst a proper credits list does take some time it's not actually that long to go through the import manager and cross check manually without using the built in assets used checker even for a campaign which usually has more assets than a regular map.

I think I remember @Ralle mentioning it uses an MD5 hash of the assets so name alone would not trigger a false positiv. It would trigger a negative at most.

That's correct (don't know about MD5 specifically, but you can see the checksum next to each filename), so any resource that was modified for the map and any resource that was updated after it was downloaded by the mapmaker will not show up.

We do have a way to export the "Resources in use" as a text list though. It goes a long way. But automatic credit is indeed not perfect.
I think the idea would be to be a good starting point, as in starting not from blank page. In my head, it will be a nice incentive to add missing ones you identify early from that list so it is less exhausting for mapmakers, especially those who are starting out. I'm sure @deepstrasz is sort of on repeat with "provide a credit list" for first time uploaders

In theory, couldn't you just link the "Resources in use" under a credits tab when you create your map description?

Depends on if the admins think that is good enough or not.
Well, I'm not sure why since in your map description it's your discretion.

My suggestion is make like a credits spoiler tag, and link "Resources in use"

example:
  1. Ralle - Hive Workshop
  2. Footman 16 - Helping me with the Credits
  3. Lokar - Map Optimization
  4. Deepstraz - Showing me how to make a good Map Description
  5. View Resources In Use - to anyone else I may have missed!

No. That is lazy and doesn't represent a real credits list. It's just a list of disorganized resources.
But for the lazy we still have this: Asset scanner You can generate a nice credits list with that, only for stuff found on HIVE in Resources.
