Ogres not turing to Ogre magi

So I wanted to make an upgrade that will change ogre from ogre to magi (like headhunter to berserker) and when I research ogre
magi I can now make magi instead of ogres but already existing ogres do not turn into magi

does anyone know how to fix this?
