Well I've never heard of this type of thing before..although I think Weed War is a real game.
The concept is that each player is a weed. They have a home base, which is their original roots. There will be sections of the map which will randomly be "in the sun." While a unit is in the sun, they get gold divided by the amount of players in the sun. This way, it would be advantageous to knock others/kill others out of the sun.
Gold can be used to:
-Buy Abilities (Most Important)
-Buy Resistances (to Random Events, see below.)
-Buy Tomes?
-Buy Items
-Buy Defenses for your original roots.
Random Events: These happen quite often, but there is no real preparation or order to them. My current ideas are:
-Weed Killer: Humans spray poison all over the level. All units will continuously take damage, unless they are garrisoned inside their original roots. You can buy Weed Killer Resistance, which lowers the amount of life you lose per second, which lets you stay in the sun while others have to get out.
-Caterpillars: Huge single monsters that roam the map and eat your main unit, but will not hurt your original roots. Resistance to this makes the caterpillar do less damage to you.
-Locusts: Like caterpillars, but there are many weak attackers, that can be killed. Same resistance as Caterpillar (Insect Resistance?)
-Flower/Tree/Big Weed: A HUGE and powerful plant is created right in the middle of the sun. It will damage any nearby units until it is eliminated. It will take co-operation between the enemies to take it down.
-Weed Whacker: A large section of the map has a stampede like attack come down, killing any weeds instantly if they are caught in its path.
-??? Need More Ideas.
The point of the game is to kill all the enemies original roots. It will be too hard to do this until you have amassed many tomes/items/abilities.
Weeds can be revived after a portion of time at their original roots.
Tell me your ideas on whether or not this game will be fun, or if it has been done before. I'm still working on my footies map, but it is NOT fine to steal this idea.

Some New Ideas:
Weed Choice: Intelligence, Agility, Strength (Ivy, Flower, Moss, Grass, Etc?)
Ability Ideas:
Entangling Roots: Because you just have to have it.
Creeper: Spawns a tree based off of the tentacle, that is in the models section of the site.
Charge: Your unit barrels towards a target unit, hitting it and knocking it back.
Self-Root: Turns into a stronger rooted version of yourself
Thorns: Spiked Carapace Clone
Root Surge: Thunder-Clap Clone
Bark Barricade: Fast Casting Summon, that can be used to wall off part of a sunny area.
Toxicity: Slow Poison Clone
Spore: Sacrifices 1/3 of life to create a heavily damaging "Parasite" type move, that spawns something when the enemy dies.
Reseed: Reincarnation Clone
Rage: Bladestorm Clone
Brutal Tackle: Teleports to a unit, damaging and stunning it heavily. This spell will take 1/3 of your life.
Flood Waters: Healing Stampede, but it also heals enemies.
Tell me if you like any. I'll post more later. I need ideas for ultimates.
