Hello everyone one more time! Now, I'm coming to raise and accumulate opinions and experience from you, who is reading me.

I've got an idea for a hero, that I don't remember to see it in any other map... A mimic hero. Well, what he does? He mimics another playable hero. Let me explain more:

Mechanically speaking, a mimic hero is just a copy of another choosable hero on a game. The idea, is to have a duplicated hero... A thing that most maps don't have. Two instances of the same hero, in a game. The Mimic, when choosen, also disappears from the tavern, like any other hero, but then, the player can choose any hero, even those who was already picked. The details (Triggers) for this, we can think latter.

For what, a Mimic Hero? To have two pyromancers to double fire power; To have two tank heroes with reincarnation; To have 2 awesome DPS heroes and deal even more damage; To have two healers and never letting your teammates die (or die trying).

So, if you know a map that does this, or have a similar mechanic, let me know. Also, try to problematize this idea, give your opinion. I'm glad to hear (read) it. My first opinion for this idea, is that it is very dangerous to handle. This mechanic has the possibility to break gameplay, so, it need to be precise.

Thanks in advance.

I've thought about a similar thing before, involving the horror movie monster "The Thing".

Basically, the idea would involve it being able to copy other Killers (Heroes) or Villagers.

I never got far enough to try make a Trigger or decide if it should be able to use the mimicked Killer's abilities as well, unfortunately... But it was an interesting idea that would've made it stand out in the original Arena map.

It would've been balanced by The Thing being unable to attack in it's regular form, and having much less health.

The balancing variate from project to project, so it is too hard to tell.

Also, I have a Mimic Boss fight idea, that the boss is one or more heroes from the group... But this one is saved for now, for the complexity of the thing.

It is good to know that other developers also had this same idea.

I saw a Darkest Dungeon map with a similar concept. A hero that can mimic (copy) the first ability of another hero which is such a cool thing that I implemented it in my altered map.

I thought it might be bland if the mimic simply copy all abilities so I restricted it only to the first ability. And make it more versatile where the mimic can frequently change the copied ability though I'm not sure if the copied ability disappears once used is annoying or not for the player. Perhaps it's best that the copied ability is simply lost on mimic's death and when clicking the discard copied ability button instead.

sounds a lot like rubick and morphling from dota 2

unsurprisingly these are notoriously the heroes that cause the most bugs and strange interactions...
I completely forgot that Morphling can mimic other heroes abilities. I play dota everyday, but almost never play with or against a Morphling.

A hero that copy just a basic skill... This I can see better than the simply copy/paste. Like Rubick itself, but instead of any spell, just the basic ones. While the hero maintains his personality with his own skills, he can duplicate allied spells to help survive.
