Net Neutrality

The newer Net Neutrality was a bill that would highly limit how companies such as Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner, and other ISPs could charge websites for bandwidth. It stated that a company must provide the same cost for all websites, treat all Internet traffic the same, and not charge more for certain websites and less for others.

This is a very important thing. Most websites, such as The Hive Workshop, could end up being charged ridiculous rates for small amounts of bandwidth.

I'd really appreciate anyone who will take the time to look into this. I'm not asking you to do much, I'll post a couple links here and if you feel worried about it go look for some petitions to sign. I'll post some petitions and links to get you started.

I hope the people of the Hive will understand my reasoning for this post, and I hope people from here will take action. This is a fairly large community, it'll definitely be worth the time. =)

I'm not sure how these claims are made. A lot of it seems like speculation that I would promote in high school.

It's speculation, yes, but it's speculation for a good reason. ISPs have been known to not be friendly people in the past, such as Comcast and Time Warner getting bills passed in their areas that basically do not allow starter companies to be in their areas, giving them a monopoly.

It's more being scared of what COULD happen, and it has a high chance of actually happening knowing these companies histories. Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner, have huge notoriety for being both an expensive ISP and an expensive host for websites.

The thing about this is that they can charge websites not based in the U.S. extra money to connect, send and receive data to the U.S. because of this. That's one thing that could happen.

Again, it is speculation/conspiracy, but it's for a good reason. If they do take advantage of this, which they almost most-certainly will, tons of websites may not be able to pay their fees and thus receive extremely little bandwidth, some websites could have to shut down or sell intellectual property, websites like Netflix will have to charge more, and websites like YouTube could have to start charging for the use of their websites.

But I mean, take it with a grain of salt. If you can and want to, spread it around. It'd be greatly appreciated.

Not to mention, it was ISPs like Time Warner, Comcast, and Verizon, that did the complaining about Net Neutrality in the first place. The point of it is to treat ALL internet traffic equally, and not charge certain websites or users more to have access to more bandwidth.

I can say from experience that this is TOTALLY a bad thing. I live in a rural area, where they have completely ignored this, and where my ISP has a complete monopoly, and being charged extra for this shit is not fun and has caused me to lose internet many times because it simply could not have been payed for.
