I believe there is also a more simple way using a dummy unit with inventory (hero). Simply make a dummy unit, a dummy item with the desired ability (in this case illusion) and then create the dummy unit and give the dummy item to it and order the unit to use last created item.

(Ability being cast) Equal to Your Ability

Unit - Create 1 Dummy Unit for (Owner of (Triggering unit)) at (Position of (Triggering unit)) facing Default building facing degrees
Hero - Create Dummy Item and give it to (Last created unit)
Hero - Order (Last created unit) to use (Last created item) on (Target point/unit of ability being cast)
Unit - Add a 1.00 second Generic expiration timer to (Last created unit)
