Just as I said, my object editor starts right at Area Effect, instead of animation names for spells! What do I do? Is there any other way to modify the animations a unit has when casting a spell?

i'm not sure there EVER was a warcraft 3 version without "Art - Required animation names" Because face it, all townhall buildings use it. Towers use it. Some units use it, i think you're just looking in the wrong place.
this is REALLY weird because it can be found at the very first line of the spell.... maybe you're just using other kind of WE and the option is just at some other places... maybe in the lower part of the spell.....
he's asking for the animation names for the spells... read his post.... and there's no such thing as Art-Area of effect for units and he says that his editor starts at that instead of the required anim name... you should read his post first....
