To be quite honest it looks like shit. All you did was stroking the terrain brush over the entire map a couple of times and then raising it at random parts. Also your doodading could be alot better. I suggest that you look at some of the galleries that are in this section to give you an idea of what terraining really is or look at some eviromental photographs to help you.

I'm going to assume that this is an early work for you. I'll then suggest you hold on to your early work, until you feel your work is good enough to show, and have people critique. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you can improve this drastically in two simple ways.
1) Look at other peoples work. Get an idea of what a good terrain looks like.
2) Spend time on your terrain. An hour is practically a minimum.

When you have something your proud of, post it, and everyone will help you perfect it.

And I bet if you spent a few hours working with the editor and looking at other peoples work, you could improve 400%.

Place trees in clumps, add rocks around it + grass.
Some of the trees should be like this, it adds variety.

Choose ur tileset carefully, random patches of grass doesent look good, add them in areas such as under trees, rocky rough tiles for paths etc.

Raise and lower the terrain abit, here and there, bt dont over do it.

thats all for now, GL

more tips-
-Never ever ever use noise, its very messy and make you terrain look ugly.
do it the hard way, raise and lower manually :)

-To make an awesome river,
Go to Advanced, and uncheck "enforce water height limits"
Cover a large area in shallow/deep water.
Then cover it up, use the same level tool to patch it up so that there is NO water visible
Lastly, use the lower tool, and lower the area which u previously covered in water.
This makes A MUCH better looking river.

-To clump doodads, press SHIFT then place them, they will have a less collision now and can be placed together.

-Go to Advanced>Modify tileset, to get some better tiles for your map, for example, use sand tile from Sunken Ruins, these are GREAT for rivers.

Check out this example, i did most if not all, what i said above.
[i know its not the best terrain in the world, i did it in 10min]

Still a no go, your hills are to pointy and your envimental doodads are spred to far and random. Still, its a tad better than the first couple of pictures.
But I suggest, again, that you look at some reference pics and try and see if you can learn something from other terrainers on this site. You might also want to look at some tutorials.

On your 2nd pics there was to much variation, try and flat it out a bit and also everything is to close to eachother. Do like cool_is_i and place everything in "stacks"

this shows potential.

try this :

use the smooth feature. By selecting it, you even out the space between pointy hills.
This creates a more " plain- field " feel.

you may also want to use shrubs. Place them near the bases of trees.

Yeah, but shrubs have a lot of uses!

You can place them near anything and they look good, take that in consideration!
