i have a question about the models you can download here. many of them dont work. i dont think its possible therefore i ask you. do most of the models really dont work or am i doing something wrong?
i use the thing with .mdx at the end and use it as a model for a unit. what can i do?

Here is the to-do-list:
  1. Import all files included
  2. You do not need to rename the .mdx-file (though I always add "model\"in front of it).
  3. If there are any .blp-files, check the folders and name them after the folders
Example: if there is a folder called "Textures" (where the .blp-file was in), rename the file inside the import manager to "Textures\File_Name.blp".
If there are multiple folders, put a "\" after each folder name (E.g.: "Glow\Red\Lol\Glowingfile.blp")
  4. Check the readme file, give credits to the author (should be in there), otherwise check the hive for the author of the file.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask, after readin this tutorial: How to import models.

ok and then? how do i use the blp file? do i use the mdx and the blp file on the unit?

Just import the model and skins, set skin path. That's all explained at tutorial. Use given one, or some at hive (tutorial section).

Then go to object editor, pick a unit who's model you want changed. Find art->model, and double click. Mark imported, and select the model you wish (if there is more then 1). You will be allowed to select only mdx.

i know that but many dont work like this? what do i have to do with the blp thing and the portrait???

Path is provided with the model. Set it by double clicking on the file in the import manager. You have to check that box just under it tho.
