It's not illegal to decompile models, and I can't make maps, just trying to find a way to convert models from HL to WC3.
It's not like I have uploaded the models or anything? And, if I find a way to get it work I'm not going to upload them if I don't get Unknownworlds permission.

Clear?

It seems that I wasn't clear enugh.
I want to do this to SEE if it's posible.
And I don't need any permission to do that.....
So please, please, don't bother replay if you don't have any answers.

Why is it illegal?

The desire to see if it's possible shows that you intend to rip if it's successful.

Supply and demand, and all that nonsense.

Its kida like not being allow to drink your coke from a cup but being forced to drink it from the orginal bottle. Why should that be illegal?

Whats your problem?
I can't even make maps, just doing this for fun.
Are you ok with that or do you have something more to complain about?

Its illegal. No matter WHAT way you try to slice it, its illegal. It is illegal because you are modifying copywrited content and using it in ways it was not ment to be used. Big fat "No" in terms of legality

Yes, its possible. No, you won't get it working. You're going to want a program with a decent WC3 exporter, like something that isn't GMax which screws the animations to hell and back

I'd tell you the name of one, but I'd rather have your illegal content stopped here. Its worse than the WoW models, mainly because Blizzard don't actually care about models from another one of their games being used in another game, but I bet both the creators of Half Life and Blizzard would care a lot to find models by one of them in another game

For the 500th time... I'M NOT USING IT IN ANY MAPS! Problems reading or what?
And IF I'm getting it to work and IF I learn how to make maps, ofcourse I ask for permission before I use them..
But you can't say it's illegal for me to do this for personal use.

But you seems so damn sure that you're right so please explain why I can't do this for PERSONAL USE.

It's like I'm riping mp3s to my cumputer and don't share them. Thats NOT illegal.

sorry but i havent read the terms of use and thought it wasent illegal but maybe it is then. Just like the law that i couldent put my music to my mp3 player. Just like buying potato chip and not being allowed to eat it from a bowl but only allowed to eat it from the orginal bag.

All material within a game is owned by the producer. It is illegal to extract and modify/reuse. Full stop.

Blizzard are just very lax. And since, as Mecheon said, they own both WoW and WC3, they're not losing anything; so they let it pass. That, however, does not make it right.

Why would anyone care when it's for personal use?

So you say that someone loose something if I make something for myself?

But we can tell from the way you're getting very up-tight that it won't stop at "personal use". It's a slippery slope you're throwing yourself down.

Oh, I'll just spread these models to some of my mates, hmm, they like this map, I'll just release it...

Legal minefield.

Not to mention just morally wrong.

I don't think it's they can't read, it's moreof they just don't care.
Plus, if this is for personal uses, then why do you want it so bad?
If you want to see if you can hack a program, then you're just an immoral @$$.
IF you want to observe it and all it's prettiness, look at it in the game.
But I see no reason why you would convert it to .mdx format if you're not going to use it, and nobody is ever going to use it. Ever.
It's simply pointless.
And kinda what like RDZ said, many pointless things find themselves points.
In this case, those things now with points are illegal.
So... JUST DON'T DO IT!

Answer to donut3.5 and Rao Dao Zao.

Many things is pintless, right? Playing games is pointless, but why do people do it? Because they think it's fun. Why do people program thing that no one is ever going to use? Because the want to learn and they think its fun. Maby I just enjoy playing with editors and other programs.

I just can't see why everyone start picking on me just because I want to try something, start judging me and other things. So please, please! Stop it.

Closing thread. All you give me here is $hit
