Depends on which options you choose in the optimizer, you could "optimize" it with leaving it open to edit, or "protect" it with no way to open without effort. But you should do an editable version for yourself, and release the protected one. Like Donut said.

Well have you extracted it from the archive? If not then get 7-zip.
If you managed to do that then just read the readme, everything you need to know is written in there. Basically turning on everything except for "Extra Options" will both protect your map and lower it to the minimum possible size that the optimizer can achieve for it.

The only reason you'd use that is if you know your going to need to unprotect your map. Vexorian's Map optomizer perminantly damages the map, but it also makes your map quite a bit smaller. Sure you could use only the optomize functions of the program, but its still doesn't get the bulk of the junk gone unless your willing to protect the map.

After Comparing and Contrasting both methods.
With vexorian's my map lost 50% of its mass.
With extprotect my map gained 100+ kb
With vexorian's many different protection methods were implemented
With extprotect the war3map.doo file was deleted, however this file can be regenerated if you know how.

It gets rid of the biggest stuff. The things that stay when you don't protect are quite minor since the MPQ compression is quite strong and optimizing makes it even better.

extprotect doesn't actually get rid of anything, it moves it into another archive stored within the map. I'm pretty sure this second archive is encrypted by the password you provide. Still the map gets BIGGER.
