I am not sure how to make a unit immune to stuns, slows (freezes, poison slow) but that it can still be attacked my magic-type attacks.

Try the passive ability "Resistant Skin".

Another method that will work (but take a lot of hard work) would be to give the unit a new classification (such as "Ancient") and edit your spells to not be able to hit ancients.

I tried adding resistant skin but it didn't seem to work. The unit still wasn't immune to stuns

I don't know if Night Elf - Spell Immunity removes the crowd control completely but it has a field where you can set the magic damage taken amount.
If you set that to 1, it might work.

If not... then you require a Spell Engine to achieve things like these.

I set the "Data - Magic Damage Factor" to 1 and still the magic-type attackers don't attack.
