Another method that will work (but take a lot of hard work) would be to give the unit a new classification (such as "Ancient") and edit your spells to not be able to hit ancients.

I don't know if Night Elf - Spell Immunity removes the crowd control completely but it has a field where you can set the magic damage taken amount.
If you set that to 1, it might work.
If not... then you require a Spell Engine to achieve things like these.
