Making a unit from an item??

Ok, I downloaded and uploaded the sentry gun, and I want it where when you click on an item you pick up, it will let you pick where you want to set it. It's kinda like the sentry ward.

So do I make the model a unit, or what?

What do I do?

Isn't there a way where I can make it like the sentry ward?
