Not gonna lie, using a program designed specifically for the purpose of making games and doing so easier...is rather lame.
its like saying that drawing with corel painter is lame because you can draw with pencils etc.

gamemaker is very good for beginners, they can learn programming basics with that as long as they don't want to make mmorpg or sth

Their scripts are similar to WE's trigger editor, but has another style and methods. But I recommend Multimedia Fusion 2 (the latest version) since it has more support for extensions and media files.
One minus on this product is it's not freeware. :(


Btw, I've found another free game making software, though I haven't tested it. It's called Novashell and it works on Windows, Mac OSX 10.4 and Linux.
