And yes Perry its only following the Fellowship, it will just include explorable locations parts of middle earth.

If you want to make a LotR-Rpg I strongly suggest not only to read the novels one more time, but also to take a look at all the maps and drawings Tolkien himself did. Some of the maps show well known places, including height and positions of forest and towns.
Have you already decided in which age of middle-earths history the map will be set?

Who do i need to talk to to apply to be a terrainer in this project?

We've already got too many terrainers and with Flad around I don't think we will need anymore! Too many cooks just spoil the dinner.

Hey on XGM.ru (it's russian use google) A gondorian solder from the battle from middle-earth game is there it's a models.
Those models are rips, I don't think the site rules will allow them.

agreed, we dont nead too many terrainers, we mostly need scripters for vJass.

EDIT: here is an updated pic of Hobbiton, its still in progress, i did not add everything yet, its about 20% completed

hey, my skills in Triggers, animating models, and some other things r way 2 low 4 good models, but my strong side is the designing (only as the how-it-could-be-looking, the making not that much) and the bringing up ideas and the creativity is also a strong side of me :p. BTW i made a Boromir Model with Milkshape out of Paladin as base file (also used the footman's sword instead of the pala's hammer, arthas's cloak as his cloak and the horn of a tauren as the horn of Gondor). BOromir is 1 of the maiun guys in LOTR Fellowship...unfortunately he needs a very little bit of texturing (just n 2 or 3 minor things) and animations. if there is some1 in the team who can do that just tell me 2 send him the Boromir model. exept the animation part, everything else needs little if any changes i think.
i am also nearly done with my Gollum-Ghoul model :p (just changing some things in the mout-lower jaw vertexes). skin is complete and the rest of the body didn't need much changes. i currently started a model 4 the gates of moria and thought of making the balrock (will use inferno as the base file, will add him (in Milkshape) the wings and flaming sword of the doomguar and the horn (2 of the complete, not the broken 1) of the tauren warrior. and edit a bit the feet and hands. i will post u any new things i have done. i hope u can need my models. u will need 2 anim8 all of them. i think it's better some1 with skills in animations does that coz than it's going 2 get a better model.

ok i saw that moria models u told me....well i think just try to make my one and see if it is needed. if it doesn't get accepted (what i think) it's np.....than i will have a nice portal for other maps perhaps :xxd: anyway i can send u the Boromir and Gollum files....if u tell me how? with email as zip-files? btw i can't send u priv8 messages for some reason....it tells me u can't send private messages 2 this memeber, but it doesnt say the reason.....if u want them with email, plz give me ur email-address.....

its grass, could not really find a light type of grass thats not bugged:cry:
hmmm....I will send you some grass tiles if I find some.

ok my email is [email protected] feel free 2 mail me or eventually contact me in msn (i am always marked as offline). i got a boromir model (made him in Milkshape from 4 different models....base file is the *normal* paladin, the sword is from footman, and i replaced his book with the horn of the tauren warrior so that he also has the horn of gondor, and i also added him the cloak of arthas, which was better fitting in than the standard paladin cloak) he uses only warcraft-textures (no custom textures)...although he needs some re-vise in the texturing 2.....but otherwise he is good looking (in my oppinion). and btw, if u anim8 him and eventually correct some texture-issues, will u post him than at the Models section? and can i use him in another guys LOTR project too than? (it's also on THW)

Here is somthing i made that is supose to be Moria where the fellowship enters the room where the father (if im right) of gimli lies. Anyway its not that professional but hope you like it

Allright I´m not a terrainer for your project, but theres a map I´ve made a few days ago.
The main theme was the way to Rivendell, but never finished it. I hope it will at least be inspiring...

Why even think about it like that?.. We're making this because:
A. Lord of the Rings features some of the finest story events and terrain descriptions in the history of fantasy
B. This is a personal challange (to me at least) as I have a very vivid image of Lord of the Rings from the novels
C. I've never worked in a project before
So, in other words we aren't trying to compete with anyone. If you like how this project turns out in the end, great! If you don't, we probably need to change something. Although what I hope to achieve with a project like this is experience in general...

Back to topic: Hi guys, long time no see! I've been away for a few days so that's why nothing is updated on this project. My apologies, look for an upgrade in a jiff :smile:

Think he was talking about the moria terrain he did, which actually didn't have any height variation at all. Although as he pointed out I_brg_doom's terrains are great, just not the style we need for this project as we are trying for a cinematic look. As he also stated earlier, mixing terrain styles will only make it look inconclusive if you get my meaning. Although personally I think that creating playable terrains blizzard style is equally hard, or even harder, compared to what we're making. Hope you don't take it personally i_brg_doom, I for one like the work you've done in your showcase (and I'm sure nknight does as well) :smile:

btw is there a way of watching progress of this project? my email & msn is [email protected] if u need me (as said previously my strongs r the ideas of creation, and creativity. i totally lack in animations, but i also could hlp u in the map-making. got most of the music, ambiente sounds, event sounds (like the music when the Nazguls r approaching, or from the charge of the rohirrim) and also a few speaks from youtube (NOT ripped from the movie). i can edit, cut and try 2 improve them with Audacity (a free available audio tool).

and btw fladdermasken, why don't u make a campaign of the complete LOTR history? it seems u got the perfect team 4 that. btw my Angmar campaig will be finished soon, if u want 2 add it 2 ur LOTR campaign too....it's briefly and mostly based on the campaign of LOTR - BFME 2: the rise of the witchking, i didnt found enought materials based on this in the novels (in the movies it was barely mentioned) so i had 2 hang on that storyline mostly. i choose 2 make an Angmar campaign as my first LOTR campaign coz there r much less details about it, and it is an innovative campaign (nearly all guys interested in LOTR make the LOTR campaign based on the films, and the *common* lotr storyline while not many seem 2 care about what happened before). i would just suggest you to make a campaign about the full LOTR story (believe me u can make LOADS of transmission/cinematics in every map). i think that is better coz a campaign that deals only with the fellowship may get boring after some time (coz in the fellowship, in both novel and film it contains very few fights and action-loads compared 2 the 2 towers and return of the king). and while playing the fellowship the main thing 2 do is *going around* ur way through the forests/fileds/etc. etc. and trying to hide from the ringwraiths (called Black Riders in the fellowship). whatever u decide 2 do (continue as u started: ONLY fellowship, or make a full history) u can count on me. i mentioned above my *contact* address (i speak both german and greek and english ofc.).

Christ, that's a wall of text! I'll try to reply on what's relevant xD
- There isn't, as of yet, any way to follow the progress. You guys have to bare with me, I will update the post soon enough when I feel like we have some major things settled.
- The ambient sounds might come in handy, depending on what sounds we're talking about. If you feel like you could contribute anything, feel free to send a pm to me at any time.
- A full campaign on the side of a huge orpg would be overkill to me at least. I'm busy as it is with this project, and we haven't really got it started yet. This project will most likely feature a main quest line following the story of the book, however it will also feature tons of sidequests and possibly a dark storyline in addition to the original one.

I hope that answered some of your questions, although as I previously stated we haven't really come to a final conclusion on how the project will turn out. It won't be a campaign though :smile:

makeing a campaign of the complete lotr history, that will mean terrraining all of middle earth and thats alot, most of middle earth will be in this project but quest and story line is important to, whole lotr history will mean 4 times as much work too do, terrain, triggers, models etc. so we ill stick to the fellowship for now

To be honest i made that terrain in like 5 minutes so i totally agree it isnt good enough :p and dont mind cause i dont take it personally. For my feeling i think i could have made it look way better but got no time for it :p working on 4 different terrains on the moment wich one of those is Isengard from the other Lotr project on this website :p O and ye i agree that moria terrain whas flat :p although the tomb is also flat in the movies if i remember right

well @ least not so fast (abadoned), IF this ever happens, which i don't think. the LOTR idea seems 2 be a very serious project and of quality (i also thought of participating in DjDinastis lotr campaign 2.....but that seems me l8ly a cheap-made, unorganized work.

I work on that lotr project and DJ does alot to make it good all he needs on the moment is a animator to anime som models he made. Besides that it is organized.

About this project just never say it should not be abandond if seen many many mapmakers failed with that saying that it wouldnt be abandond but yet they failed. All i can say is good luck with the project :p
 
what i didn't like on Dj's project was the he wanted 2 use ripped units (not coz they r ripped/stolen) but they r not fitting in2 warcraft from graphics style. btw what i like much more on Dj's LOTR is that it's a campaign of complete LOTR story coz a campaign only about the fellowship will get bored with the time i think....i mean all the action in the fellowship is just Moria and the Uruk-Hai. the rest is just walking around and hiding from the ringwraiths (black riders). i mean, that part of lotr is a part 4 more a cinematic/eventish campaign where u r more a spectator than a player. btw i got a VERY IMBA looking mumakil model in milkshape 3d 1.8.5....it just need textures and animations, nut it's made in proper size around, got a big basket (or however this thing on its back is called) and i also made/am making a mahud from the bloodmage (the guy with the painted face that was comanding the mumakils in lotr when the charget @ the riders of rohan @ the siege of minas tirith). i also thought of making the balrog, the felbeast (nazgul with flymount), and the fortress of minas morgul (as a doodad) as my next things.....send the boromir and gollum model 2 Nknight001 2 animate them. the gollum is just a ghoul with a changed texture and some vertexes edited in the jaw, boromir is the paladin model using a footmans sword and the horn of a tauren warrior (horn of gondor) instead of his book, and i replaced the cloak with arthas's cloak. i can make u great milkshape models but i am quite unskilled in texturing and i completly lack in animations.

Fladder has not been online lately, but Hobbiton is coming along great, will post new screanshots soon

EDIT: Im also working on a site, it will be updateing more then this post and will provide more information, and where the hell is Fladder??

EDIT #2: I believe we still could use some artists for concepts, loading screens, etc. and vjass scripters are highly required aswell, and maybe another modeler could help out Fladder on the old forest.

and here are the new logo's i created in photoshop, since the old one i created with the wow styled logo kind of looked crappy, guys tell me which you think is better
