Looking for help from experienced Warcraft III modders/map developers regarding BVO (Bleach vs One Piece) v13

I completely understand and respect why map protection exists. Creators deserve credit and protection from theft. But in this situation, the original owners/developers of BVO have been missing/inactive for years, and a lot of the community still loves the project and wants to keep it alive.

The goal is not to steal or disrespect anyone’s work. The goal is preservation, bug fixing, balancing, and possibly building onto the game so the community can continue enjoying it.

If anyone has experience with deprotection, preservation work, triggering, balancing, or Warcraft III map development in general, I’d appreciate any help or guidance.

Trying to preserve a piece of gaming history, not destroy it.

This forum doesn't support unprotecting maps.

Your request isn't very clear by the way, is there a need to update this 10 years old version?
Seems to run fine, feels like Darkboy is hosting the map everyday : https://wc3maps.com/map/459/Bleach_VS_Onepiece_13.0

This map's history is a mess, the original creator seems to be kurogane and last seen in 2009 (version 2.09)
Then some dude probably deprotected the map somehow, fuck up the versioning, we go to BvO 5.0, then 8.5, then 13, then some south asian dude renames it to BvO New World and adds Naruto characters (wtf??).

BvO New World used to crash on Reforged update in 2020, so we played BvO 13 which ran fine except for akainu crashing the map.
There's also BvO Another which was made from scratch by Unryze, apparently you can find an open sourced version but it's made using C# : GitHub - rossoliny/bvo-another: Continuing Unryze's work on BvO Another.

Haha, Darkboy still hosting BvO daily is actually pretty awesome.

To be honest, I’m not really interested in deprotecting maps just for the sake of deprotecting them. My interest is more in preserving and expanding a map that’s been effectively abandoned for years.

The roster always felt incomplete to me, and there are a lot of anime characters that never made it in. I’d love to add more heroes, rework some abilities, fix balance issues, and modernize parts of the game while keeping the original BvO feel.

I know the map history is a bit of a train wreck at this point with all the different versions and forks. That’s actually part of why I was asking. If the original creator has been gone since 2009 and development is long dead, it seems like a shame for the project to just stop evolving.

Worst case, I may end up commissioning someone to help or learn World Editor myself and build a spiritual successor from scratch. I mainly wanted to see what options existed and whether anyone in the community was still interested in keeping BvO alive. Thank you so much for sharing this info with me omg I love you
