Area of Effect (Full Damage) is the area that units recieve the full damage from an attack. This is the smallest.
(Medium Damage) is where they recieve medium amounts of damage. (Small Damage) is the smallest amount of damage, and the largest area. Area of Effect Targets are the targets that can get hit by the splash damage.

Exactly. Think of it like a nuclear blast radius, the most damage is done in the middle, and the destruction becomes less as it goes farther out. AoE Targets is what is affected by splash damage.

Although, if, say, your attack targets are Structures and Ground, but only Ground is designated as a splash target, Structures still take normal damage, but nearby structures dont take splash damage.

@ sojobo: uh no Flame Strike is a specific ability with no splash, it has a specific area of effect and damages equally throughout that area (area for that ability is defaulted at 200.00) See, area of effect for what were talking about is a "Units" attack area of effect and splash, Flame Strike is an ability.

@ WCverfrisser im not sure exactly what u mean but i think what your asking is what to put in those sections and its totally up to you. If you want something to have a very large amount of splash then you want the "small damage" one to be a very large number, then the "medium damage" one to be smaller and then the "full damage" one to be the smallest. Of course you can just as easily make the integers very small away from eachother if you want the maximum amount of damage most of the times, you can also set them all at the same integer if you want the maximum amount of damage throughout the entire area. But its up to you completely and totally. if you dont know how large an area is, you can use an ability on a unit and test with units around it (such as place someone like jaina with her mana regen aura and then place a series of units in a straight line away and then set the area of the ability and then see how far it reaches. And that should give you a good idea of approximately the range of the area, and then you should be able to guesstimate pretty well how large the other areas will be.) Good Luck

Area of Effect (Full Damage) = The area in which your full damage is dealt, if you put the number 200 in this field, your attacks will deal full damage in a circle with the diameter of 200.
With the other fields, they should be larger then Full Damage because they deal less.
