This is an excellent idea that's long overdue, I'll try to make it happen this week. No promise on the time frame though. It depends on how much help I can get on this project...

Here's what needs to be done.
  • Each of the approved tutorial categories needs to be indexed, and hyperlinks to each thread provided.

  • Tutorials awaiting approval should NOT be included, nor should those in the tutorial "Graveyard."

  • The list of tutorials must be 100% complete and accurate in regard to thread tile and URL.

  • A brief description (one or two VERY succinct sentences) must be provided for each.

Here's how we are going to get it done.

  • I have created the basic template below which everyone may copy and paste into their own post.

  • After all the links are tracked down, I'll create the stickies.

  • Please stay on-topic and DO NOT spam this thread.

Considering a forums description is shown on all pages of the forum, perhaps placing links to the related tutorial sections within those forum descriptions would be prudent. eg:
jass.gif
JASS Scripting
Discussions concerning JASS, Blizzard's scripting language for Warcraft III take place here. Get help with JASS scripting and programming issues.
Becomes:

JASS Scripting
Discussions concerning JASS, Blizzard's scripting language for Warcraft III take place here. Get help with JASS scripting and programming issues. Please check the JASS tutorials before asking questions.

Not that many will notice either a sticky or a link in the description (that they probably don't read), but its worth a try.

[EDIT by Wolve] I already had that in mid E-F: consider it done.

So... you want each thread in each section to list all of the tutorials, not just to the ones related to the section? Also, do we want the links to state the author with a short ~Daelin or something? Sometimes I am looking for tutorials by author.

I'll go ahead and start getting links for JASS/AI. I'll be editing this post with the links. I can write a short description later.

Also, Daelin's tutorials are good, but I think they need some formatting things done to them, as well as the signature detached. I think they are old enough that a lot of rules on the tutorials were not in place. Isn't he retired? Does he still visit the Hive? I don't see him visiting JASS Scripting...

Also... even though JASS Scripting and AI Scripting use the same language, the concept and development I feel is different enough, perhaps now would be a good time to possibly split the sections? I was off-topic

I think tutorial indexing is a good idea. Here's some more for you, and I alphabetized them:

> Maybe we could narrow the list down to the more useful and more used ones.

Personally, I think that the approved ones are good.
I mean, after all, it's just a list of hyperlinks. It's more helpful the more you spread it around.
Approval implies a certain usefulness, no?

Though, someone will need to update these indexes when new things are approved....

On a further note, have a separate section for terrain tutorials. It's a broad category, and although we don't have many at the moment, the addition of a new section would bring the many needed tutorials. Although many maps have brilliant models and triggers, what most maps are lacking is good terrain.

And plus, there is a section for jass, models and texturing...

Update: finished indexing JASS/AI tutorials as well as completed Miscellaneous Tutorials.
Edit: Thank you for the rep, Wolverabid.

I noticed that the sticky for JASS/AI did not have the descriptions. I am not sure if this was intended, I am drawing your attention to it just in case it was not.
