[JASS] letter key event?

is it possible to make an event happen when a player presses a letter key, like r? i know somebody did do it, but it got messed up with the new patch. just wondering if its possible. cuz i dont want to give abilities.

No.. Only if he has selected a unit with an ability with the hotkey "r". Then we can see when the abilty is cast, but in the way you asked for, no.
