Legend Of Uzuru

Submitted by meatfactory
This bundle is marked as approved. It works and satisfies the submission rules.
This is the story of the demon Blademaser Uzuru who was summoned by the warlock Naragh to revenge the alliance forces that banished him from his home.

Note that this is a demo version and it is not completely finished. I will add lots more combat scenes and will probably remake some of the existing ones.

Credits go to: Me, my self and I ... o yeah and Paladon (for jump system) :D
Soundtrack: Mongol - No Mercy & Amon Amarth - Gods Of War Arise. (mixed and edited by me)
Terrain, triggering, camera work, story, model tweaks are also mine.

Hope you enjoy it... and I'm open to suggestions and ideas.
Make sure your sound is at 100% cause the music is using "play sound" function.

You might want to remove the custom music since it'll just make the map larger. There is alot of music theme that wc3 has in the editor.

The terrain was very good its from one of your template maps if i'm not mistaking. The story caught me at the beginning it was really interesting. The way you remix the 2 songs was great. Maybe you should add in the description that you also used "Sad Mystery" theme.:con: The effects, camera movement and animations are excellent. Would be nice to see some more action but this is still a demo and i have no doubt that you will improve it. Ok thats the constructive criticism part now for the other part ... WOW WOW WOW WOW :razz::razz: FUCKIN EPIC :thumbs_up: Keep working on it

    Good, good

I liked it, it was well done work. The storyline is good, interesting, terrian was pretty good, one thing i would like to point out is, that you should make trees and buildings little bit bigger, cause then it seems more real.(But it didnt distracted me). Camera moved well to, nothing bad to say about that.

The only thing what i didnt liked was a 1 spot in terrian in scene where the blademaster jumpkilled the soldier. There was the hill raise too big, cause some of the rocks are like in air and my eyes spotted it momently.

Good work, keep going on with this. I rate it 8/10

Well it’s a good start! I’ll give a quick impression, it’s by no means detailed but it’s just my impression after a viewing :p.

    Full Review

    STORY:
Story needs a little work, I know it’s more of an intro/teaser sort of thing, but I think it’ll need more development. I mean as of now it’s not too unique. I think it’s more how you presented it though rather than the story itself and this cutscene focused more on action, with only a few quick lines about the back-story at the beginning. But still, it shows good promise, I just hope you’ll extrapolate on the history behind the conflict and have some characters or strong plot that can evolve over the course of the final cinematic, rather than just an angry demon going around killing everyone for revenge which would be cliché and a let down.

3/5 for its presentation in this particular cinematic, but 4/5 for potential :).

    TERRAIN:
Not much to say, it was nice and varied, with a good balance of buildings and trees and suitable earth height variations etc. Waterfall scene was very nice too :).

    4/5

    ACTION:
Again, lots of good work here. Nice and varied with different kills. Could’ve used some more special effects, a little more eye candy and perhaps some things like slow motion or even short freeze-frames to emphasise the kills. And it wouldn't hurt to be a little more fast-paced. But all in all, good work

    4/5

    CAMERA:
K this is where it was lacking a little. Camera for the first parts was alright, but for the action scenes it was slow and unimmersive. In some parts where Uzuru was violently killing all those soldiers, the camera is just slowly panning across the terrain like 50 feet away haha. Try making the camera move quicker, and in action scenes change angles more often so it’s more fast paced and feels like you’re in the action rather than just zooming out, fixing the camera on Uzuru and slowly rotating it around him while he kills people :p. Or for example when he jumps off the hill and kills the soldier, have the camera follow him from a little distance and then zoom in when he lands on the soldier and kills him, shaking the camera a tiny bit. That way the viewer will feel the impact of the kill, rather than just 'watching a soldier get killed'. It’s annoying work I know to get the camera moving lots, but it’s well worth it, especially in action scenes. In conclusion not terrible by any means, but needs a little work in the action scenes

    3/5

    MUSIC:
Well this is something that’s more of a personal touch so I don’t really like rating it. I prefer the traditional Warcraft 3-type music in scenes that are based in its time (check out X-ray Dog’s little pieces and the likes) but the music worked for the action so it’s fine with me. Only thing is, have music during the talking parts too, some softer music in the background really helps to alleviate the boredom that can come from the parts in cinematics while we just have to sit and read dialogue without voice acting, it’s hard to avoid and a little music can solve the problem :). I won’t rate the music, but I have no problem with it

All in all, I give it around 3.5/5, but with its potential I’ll round it up to 4/5. Keep it up, can’t wait to see where it goes :).

    Finaly a good feedback
I agree the camera movement must be faster will work on that. The story - well about that the idea of this cinematic was to be more of an action type rather than story oriented (less talk more killin') and yes I agree that it's not really that unique but i've never seen anyone here make something like that nor do I remember a movie based on this story (not saying there isn't). One thing that really puzzles me is "the waterfall scene" ? o_O there is no such thing dude there aren't even any waterfalls in the map. And about the feeling the impact when Uzuru jumps from the clip actually there is a shake function for that so it's done :con:. Anyway thank you for your feedback it was useful +rep

    Update!

    Haha no problem.

LOL ok sorry for a few stupid comments, it had been a few days since I watched the map and my memory wasn't 100%. I was going out and didn't have time to re-watch before putting up review, but I just re-watched to refresh my memory, so let me clarify some things and add some more stuff :D.

    Other Points :).

Ignore that waterfall comment haha I was confusing your cinematic with another I had watched recently >< I am an idiot :p. My apologies!

As for the story, don't get me wrong I do think it's unique and its potential is great. And I know obviously with the summoning of an evil, vindictive demon there is gonna be a large focus on action and there is NOTHING wrong with that at all :). What I meant was make sure you don't throw the story by the way side in order to focus more on the action. Even though it can be tempting, a (longer) cinematic that is like purely action is pretty unsatisfying. But dw, I'm sure you've got it all planned out :D.

As for the jump part, my apologies you did shake the camera, so ignore that part, but yeah locking on to him while he jumped would be a nice touch too (especially cos it would give a smoother camera movement)

    Now some other points:

    1. Just a small thing, but make sure you don't make the camera go through doodads and stuff, it totally kills the immersion haha. Just when you're getting into the mood of the cinematic, the camera just noclips right through a tree or something and I snap back to reality and get reminded that I'm just watching a cutscene in a video game haha :p. It's a small thing but its done a few times. Easy fixable :).

    2. Have some more sound effects, particularly to go hand in hand with your SPECIAL effects. Like when he is summoning the demon there are hardly any sound effects, you have some nice special effects but it's only the music playing in the background. Having some earthquake, earth-trembling and volcano-esque/explosin sort of sounds would really help to make his summoning a little more epic. Same goes for other situations, simple sound effects can add alot. And you wouldn't have to import anything, there'd be plenty of simple in-game sounds that could use, just have a look around :).

    3. The action is good with some nice variety, but you could spice up the kills a little more. There are a few too many where he just goes invis then stabs them. You could mix it up with simple little things such as this:

Have him stand like 250 units away from a soldier and have them facing each other, then play his attack animation (maybe slow the animation speed down a little), then pause for a split second, then instantly move him 250 units directly BEHIND the soldier and at the same time have him finish his attack animation (if you could follow that hehe :p.). Like that way it'd look like he did this superfast lightning slash that was so powerful it went right THROUGH the soldier. Maybe add some special effects from the mirror image spell and perhaps even explode the soldier and you have yourself a nasty kill :D. And if you attach some missile effects to his hands/feet/body/whatever when you instantly move him it'll leave a nice, straight, cool looking trail right through the soldier. Just look around for some missile effects that leave trails such as the Illidan (Evil) missile and the Phoenix missile :). [Btw if you didn't get that example at all, PM me and I'll make a quick map demonstrating it, in case it's a bit confusing]

All in all that's just mixing things up a little more,, I'm sure you can get plenty of ideas so don't be afraid to let em out :).

    4. Well yeah, don't be afraid to use other resources, there are plenty out there especially here on The Hive Workshop, such as the Ultimate Terraining Map objects and Anitarf's Cinematic System etc. which I'm sure you know about. I see good potential in this and with the right add-ons it could be truly awesome!!

Sorry again for the incorrect comments, hopefully you found this useful as well. Best of luck for working on this cinematic, I anxiously await the final result!!.

Oh and also, if music is too big you can easily reduce it without too much quality loss. I used Sony Vegas to change a 5 minute soundtrack of mine from 9.83MB down to 1.7MB haha and it didn't sound too different. There are plenty of easy to get, small, free programs around the web that should be able to do that too. I'm sure Audacity can :). So yeah if music or voice clips are making your file size too big (doesn't really matter in this map cos it's short anways) but in bigger maps, you can cut down music/sound file size a fair amount. If you need some help doing that, PM me as well I can send you links and give you a brief tutorial

    Review - Legend Of Uzuru

    A cinematic by meatfactory

    Camera :

The camera work is good, no problems here.

    Terrain :

The environment is excellent, making desert terrains is hard, yet you've managed to make a fantastic clan camp.

    Story :

The story is ok I guess, there's not much to say since an old warlock wants to kill the humans for having banished him from his camp.

    Animations :

The fighting scene is nicely done, with different animations, slow motion etc.

    Other :

There are a few typos in the cinematic.

    Hiveworkshop :

You have written an acceptable description.

    Overall :

I guess it's a nice cinematic, recommended to all warcraft 3 players.

    Final Rating : 3/5
