Hey everyone!!
It's been a while since I have started to look for icon creating programs.
I have found photoshop which is awsome but not free.
So I'm looking for a free icon making program that it's almost similar to photoshop.
Thanks in advance!!!

THE standard definition of GIMP.

Let's not touch the subject of piracy here, though.
PS Elements is also another alternative - more rudimentary than Photoshop, but much cheaper.
Still, GIMP would be the best option for you. It offers a wide variety of tools and can be extended by using scripts and whatnot.

Just do us all a favour and practice before you actually upload anything to the resource sections.
Create a thread in the 2D Art forums (--> here), where you can post images of your progress. Best way of gathering feedback for beginners.

You have to export it properly. You can select a filetype from a list when selecting "Saving as...".
*.XCF is GIMP's very own filetype, just like *.PSD is for Photoshop - basically a project file that keeps all your layers, settings etc.

And once again:
Do not upload anything to the resource sections yet.
Create a thread in this forum (Text. & Surfacing) and gather feedback.
99% of beginners are incapable of creating acceptable quality resources.

Why would I laugh? -_____-

Another thing: never work in 64x64 pixel resolution. Even icons require details and stuff, which are best created in larger resolutions. I personally used 500x500 and 600x600 resolutions, but you want to find out what works best for you.

You will have to learn to work efficiently.
Too many and too small details won't show up in and clutter the icon.
Too harsh work will result in a raw, unfinished looking icon.
Balance between those is the key.
