I were thinking if it's allowed to use pictures of a WoW weapon to skin a weapon. I'm new at model making, and really wanna make my own weapon, i'm at the texture part, and i need a nice picture to my model. Is it really that hard to skin? I think i could do it okay with paint. But aint it easier with a program like Photoshop?

Believe me, Photoshop or Gimp are the better choises. I prefer Photoshop. And about the thing with using a WoW texture as a kind of pattern I can say, that I can't see anything illegal in it. As long as you redo the texture by yourself and not simple extracting the texture directly out of WoW, you are fine.

There are several programs out their that are much better than paint. Paint is extreemly limited in it's capabilities, and downloading Gimp (which is free to the best of my knowledge) would serve you much better. You should only use paint for creating images that only need a handful of colors (like five, and each small variation in color counts as one). For making smoothly blended images, shading, highlights, shines, fur, cloth, etc. don't use paint. For anything bigger than 32x32 don't use paint.

As for using a WoW skin for a weapon reference, if you change it 100% of the way it doesn't matter what you used as a reference or even were the reference came from. If you keep some of the original, then it is in violation of the site rules, which specifically state not to use material from WoW :(
