I know myself and a few people have already told in another thread, but since it was off topic I thought I'd create a new thread for it so that everyone could share.

Except for Ralle... since he didn't join, he created. XD

Anywho, I came about joining of course when I saw the link for the Hive somewhere in Warhammer 40K TD. I remember visiting the site once or twice back when it was different (you guys were still releasing very early versions of the TD) I went for a long time without visiting after that, but when I did visit again, in March 2006, and well I haven't left yet, have I? XD

So I'd like to know how the rest of you awesome people, from all over the world, managed to find such a hub where we can come together and be jackasses- er discuss warcraft mapping at a level understandable by all.

at least I can tell my view of the story to this awesome thread :)
well it started when bloodletter first came to denmark. His dad is my dads old friend. so they came visiting. and bloodletter, I'll call him David now.. he thought we should make a TD for warcraft so we started working on wh40ktd. It took several months of working to make it function correct. We released so many not working versions just to play it online :D it was so humiliating that the spawn system was not created in one of them and stuff like that. :D
so then we thought that we better get a forum. So get got a free forum. switched to another free forum. got hosted on a free webhosting plan. switched free webhosting plan. bought hosting on b-one.net using the domain war-hive.com switched to siteground using hiveworkshop.com. So here we are :D

h yes, War Hive. I do, faintly, recall visiting that site back in the day. Oh so faintly. See, even Ralle has a story, children XD Now how did the rest of you come to join? I haven't left because once I start posting on a forum (especially one that interests me) I like dedicate myself to it, and well as you see, I have for The Hive. All of the tutorials and tings really helped to draw me in at the beginning when I was merely guest browsing. Well here I am, in an excellent community. With an amazing leader. With awesome people. With Bob27. Yeah he gets his own blurb. What, you vannafightaboutit?

BTW. I think Ralle should be President of the United States since he has clearly shown he is capable of leadership qualities far beyond the grasp of 'Dubya'.

Yes, Ralle is a great leader and a good friend, I enjoy working with him

Anyway, back when i joined the Hive, I came from communities like Clan WEnW and Wc3campaigns (strict comminities & professionals).

When i joined i asked Ralle if i could become a moderator of the Hive Workshop. He told me with kind words that i should go see Bob27, and that was how I got to know Bob
He then told me that i should keep on making tutorials, help people, submit resources to the Hive in order to become a moderator.

Weeks passed, and I was promoted to a global moderator.
After some time, Ralle himself asked for my MSN, and that was the beginning of a friendship

Weeks came and passed, and I became an administrator.
(The visitor who became a member, the member who became a moderator, the moderator who became an administrator)
And I've enjoyed working with Ralle and Bob27 ever since, and still do.

Well, that was a quick storry of how Archian came to the Hive :p

wait, so bloodletter is the David in Canada that your dad thought I was?

Anyway the way I found hive is simple. Found the link at wc3sear :infl_thumbs_up:, its amazing that those things actualy worked. If it wasn't for Ralle putting up that link at wc3sear just think about how this site would be. Terrible. The only thing that makes this site good is me :p

No idea, I never remember how I get to these retarded places I find. I suppose I just drifted along with the cerebral tides like I usually do, hit a snag, found out that snag consisted of site and then built myself a house there. Or something like that. Maybe I followed a trail of full-cream milk down a purple rabbit hole....

I joined because of some mapping contest which I never finnished my entry for. Then I stayed and were rude to people for awhile (that's how I got to know bob) and then I left again. I then came back to the site a little while ago because bob told me to post or something, I don't remember the details.

I think I only said that because you were bugging me to post at CBS site:infl_thumbs_up:

Well, since I don't have school today, I'll spin my yarn. . .

It all started one day when I was looking through wc3sear.ch and noticed the "links" section. Hive workshop was, at the time, the top one on the list so I clicked it. . .and was transported to the hive.

I had been looking for a site to "settle down" for awhile, but all I'd found was places like wc3campaigns where it seemed all the people there were professionals and had no time for noobs like myself, and other little "clan places" which didn't have much to offer. I'd thought about joining wc3sear.ch but all the people do there is put down other people's stuff and talk about how there's was better.

So when I came to the Hive I was rather impressed with the friendly atmosphere, the admins' willingness to put up with my noob posts, and the small community allowed me to not be "looked over" as I so usually am.

So I joined, and now after some time I'm here. . .

One of these two reasons, i can't remember which x)
1: I played the Wh40K td and saw the webadress for the forum so i simply just went here for downloading the newest version and i got cached by the forum i guess.
2: Else was i because i met Ralle in a Wh40ktd game he'd hosted, i really loved it at that time, and i still do :p He gave me the webadress for the forum.

And heres my story...

There is no one who knows me since you couldnt find me anywhere.
I've gotten here because the wc3sear was corrupted.
Not the admins, members but the links. Still I really love wc3sear because it offers so much resources. I've been looking at the site news and than i saw something like this:"Hopefully in the next few days ahead we will be taking steps to implement some changes that may solve some issues. I have been taking with Ralle, owner of Hiveworkshop.com, another great wc3 site, about a potential merger. They have much available room for us to possibly move servers." And i've heard on wc3camps that "Hive is site that have time for everyone, not only pro"
And than i started thinking about registering. AND REGISTERED.
Actualy it wasn't because i'm n00b, since i am noob only at moddeling and JASS.
And i like that here is not that much members, since all who register can easily be helped. For example, someone wanted to know how to make unit enter region and get to another one, but each time change the destination region. Two hours later user posted reply and even demo map!
That couldnt be possible on site as is wc3camps, since there no one cares for Newbies.

And Hive site moderators are the best i know. (well it's not hard to be when compared to Tim and Darky(he is ok but rarely IS on his own site, he is playing too much wow...)

And, of course, he no longer cares about his fans -_-.

exactly.

And will someone please remove the retarded limit of "No posts under 10 characters"?!

Notice my "-*meow*"? Half of the reason for that is the minimum character limit ^^.

The other half is that he really likes cats :p And Shados didn't you say you were starting a crackdown on spam? Yeah, start by cracking down on yourself :p The minimum character limit is there so people don't post little spam jibblets of one or two words, but actuall write long meaningful posts like forums are intended for.

Sometimes a well-placed word or two is enough, though. And I'm cracking down on the more spammy spam, me meowing is less spam and more off-topic. There's a fine line between them, :)

And I meow because I'm saying something extremely rude in Cat, ;P.

:p A lot of forums wont tolerate anything and will actually delete your post if it isn't long and meaningful. You will be instantly labelled a spammer if you go off topic and a thread is immediately locked if it goes off topic. I don't like that because after the initial point of a thread has been discussed people will naturally move on to other topics and continue talking, just let it happen, as it does naturally instead of triyng to force people to start new threads and all the rest.

How'd I join... Ralle. on Wc3sear.ch. while looking at the amount of uh... VERY low quality maps, I noticed the Hive Workshop and since wc3c is down I came here.

Awesome. @Rage, wc3sear.ch, in my opinion revolves around its downloads. Honestly, thats what people go there for. When te leadership falls apart, and the downloads fall apart, it's fair to say that the site falls apart. It woulfd have continued in a spectacular downward spiral had Ralle not saved things.

you know what? the ressources aren't too bad. At least you can easily get stuff you want, but not have exactly the best quality.

but the maps.. the maps... oh god, its a horrible place. I say burn it all down and do a new submission system to not let the crap maps go through...
