Hello, I want to search for models in the model section for example using the tag "worker". I can't find any field to type in save for the "author" field which looks like it works only for authors...

Is there a way to do it? Or is this another one of the calamities that hive 2.0 brought to this site?

Click the search box top right. You can search the current section or the entire site for the word "worker" here. If you want more filters, click "More", click "Bundles and Resources" and type worker there. You can also filter by everything else there. Maybe I should add a more direct link to this page?

I see. Without saying it was better before but this will have to do I guess. Quite annoying that you can't see the model image through this manner of searching.

A bit off-topic, but is there a thread or a section asking about all the bugged/unavailable features of hive 2.0 and how to access them through one form of witch-craft or another?

A simpler way of searching by the way.
When you are in a repository (resource section). Typing something in the search field will search for resources in that section only. If you want to add more filters, you can press "Search Again" to customize the search.

The repository listing is mostly just for viewing what's new and make simple filters while the search page is for more advanced features. The displaying of the image and more info is on my list.

You are making it sound like the site is unusable. You did not ask for Hive 2 but I ask of you to have a little patience and tolerance. I listen, no need to be toxic about it.

If by "simpler" you mean featuring less images that create a need to click every search result to see anything that looks like a screenshot, then yeah, I agree with that. But surely you can see that's hardly a positive.

One thing that is however a bit less "simple" is the repetition of the majority of resources searched for that lead to unnecessarily expanding the page length. For one reason or another you get 2 or even 3 copies of the same resource in the search results.

I knew these sorts of issues would arise which is why I was never excited for hive 2.0. It's little more than a pain in the backside. I am sorry you find this sort attitude toxic, but hey it's the truth.

Makoodzaka, keep the "truths" to yourself, mind you.

It should be fairly obvious that no update comes without a quirk or two or ten, these things happen.
And so there is no need to point out the obvious in a negative manner, keep in mind that Ralle is rather
on edge about this update and that being disrespectful in circumstances like this is really rude.

He is working hard to make things better.

Simply ask the questions frankly, say what is wrong frankly, and don't add any additional glazing to the
cake, alright? We listen, and we try to fix every problem there is.

We want this site to run as smoothly as you want.

That's a bit too off-topic for me to indulge in, I am afraid.

I'll just say this, the search function was better when it did not bring up duplicate models.
Yes, duplicates. It looks like the links given from the search function move the page automatically down to the area where you can click on a link to enter the model viewer. So one link moves you to the model, while the other one moves you a tiny bit lower (or higher) to the portrait.

The point is is that the bundles are same. The download file is the same. The page is the same.

I also am disappointed by the lack of proper search in the ressources, as I already said during the beta.
I disagree that the standard forum search shall be used to browse ressources, i think this search engine was made to search in forums, and it is not good at all for ressources.
The ressources have a special layout, different from forums, which is good. There is also filter by tags, these filters work well and retain the special layout.
A good search should be based on those filters by tags, but working with custom keywords.

No matter which function you use, what filters you apply, there is one thing that is always the same and is probably the real issue (in my opinion):

Let's imagine we are looking for a model. Instead of the search updating the models list appropriately and according to your keywords and filters, you instead get redirected to a "search results" list which contains the Avatar of the creator of the resource and the name of the resource. The "issue" here is that you don't get a preview of the model, because you are no longer in the models section. Results of models go hand to hand with their creator's Avatar which isn't entirely helpful since you have to click each result to see how it looks like.

Sorry but the rescource search function is terrible! Hope you can get this fixed.

Also I don't see why the maps, models, icons, skins have now all been bunched under one button. The main attraction of this site is its vaste rescources, don't hide it away like that.

There are lots of issues you guys are no doubt looking at but the site definitly looks slicker and more presentable.

Ralle,
I didn't see this page, but it doesn't answer the problems anyway...

SpasMaster is right, one of the problems is that the search results are not presented with the ressources layout (with thumbnail, rating...), which makes me think that the search engine shall not be used to browse ressources, it is not the good tool in my opinion.

Another problem is that the old Keywords are ignored, those have been merged with the description and the search engine looks into titles only.

That is why i believe the best way to handle this is to add the list of keywords as a separate property of bundles, just like the list of tags or the list of authors. Then you should be able to add a field in the Bundle Filters area (where currently you can filter by author) to filter ressources through keywords.
I hope you will consider this option when you work on this problem.

I think this is a great idea and I really hope it becomes a reality :) Add that along with an option to choose how many resources are showed per page and I'll personally not have any further problems with the resource section.

I agree, but that's not really something that would get me all up in arms about it. I can live with that, however I think that exposing the resources a bit more is a valid suggestion that should be consider. After all, I think they are what really drives most people to come to the Hive :)

There is a point behind the quote "If it's not broken, don't fix it". The old resource search was much more accessible and overall better experience to find what you need. Sure, I really love the new style and everything it brought to the community and website in general, however some of the things are kind of weird. For example, I'll have to go ahead and agree with what Marshmalo said about the resource merge and hiding.

Hive is the main site for Warcraft 3 stuff, coming from the simple edits to fit community needs made by friendly and helpful makers, all the way over to the best models made for Warcraft 3 by community in the world. However, with this update all that seems to be somewhat "behind the scenes", to put it like that, with the merge on top of the page and them all being under one button.

As for the search function, and in response to what Ralle said, back in the days people who needed models would go into the models section and search for their models. If they'd love to search for icons, they'd just switch to the icons tab and do the same thing. It was kind of straight forward to what you need. Straight to the point. And by expanding that and giving the whole forum when searching, it just makes the thing more messy in my honest opinion.

Above are just my two cents regarding the update and the way things function at the moment, so please don't take hard feelings or think of it as a disrespectful way of flaming and provoking the developers. They did an amazing job and I really love the new layout, as I said above, however there are some things which I don't personally find to my liking.

You don't search the whole forum when you go to models and enter something in the search field. Only if you untick "search this repository only" and "resources only".

And Hive was broken. We have been hacked multiple times and were still vulnerable until we moved.

EDIT: Okay if you hit "Search Again" it does search the whole site. That's a bug. It was also intended that you could select which repositories you wanted to search (e.g. exclude low quality section).

I understand that. What I wrote above was aimed towards the maps, models, skins, etc. About those sections and the way they were accessible to the community. The old way they were, not the website itself. Anyhow, on the other hand, yes I understand the overall need for improvement.

Pretty much sums up how i feel about it too.

Guys, have you checked out search in the past 2 days?
THIS^.
I've been among the first to grab my pitchfork about the search issues - but the way I see it now, we're slowly getting there. Just a few more tweaks here and there and the new search should be even better than the old one :)

Search has been (mostly?) fixed.

I've been holding off on commenting until the obvious bugs MasterBlaster brought up (no keywords, exact titles only, author avatars instead of resource thumbnails, etc) were addressed.

Those have been resolved. Search is usable again, and seems to be working well.

I'm sure there are other issues, and I imagine they'll be dealt with one way or another. But I joined the Hive for the resource search, and the transition was a massive failure in that area...until it got fixed.

Great job, Ralle. The new site looks good. Different, which will take some getting used to, but the stuff that has to work is working again. Thanks for the time and effort you've invested so far.

It seems to work better now yes! :)

However, just something else that would be a big improvement is the option to increase how many search items are listed each page, there so many models on hive you sometimes have to crawl though a lot of them and its good to be able to have 200 entries per page just like in the old system.
