How to make unit drop item after dead (without triggers)?

You know that in melee maps, if you kill neutral hostile creeps you got an item. How can we do that without trigger? I have open some melee maps but i can't find it.

without a trigger you can do it with preplaced units by double clicking them in the world editor. the units will have an items dropped tab, where you specifiy the item sets and drop chances.

Also if my knowledge is correct preplaced units can be set up so they randomly drop certain items.
