You can turn them off, by selecting the 'None' Option in the Option Editor for the specific unit, located on the top of the list under the "Art - Icon - Normal/Turn Off" Place
I hope it helps!
You hide them inside of a spellbook ability. Here's what ya do: Go into your Object Editor, make a new custom ability based off of "Spellbook." Let's call this ability "HiddenBook." Now put your passive abilities inside that Spellbook, and give that spellbook as an ability to your unit. Now, in triggers, find "Player - Disable (Ability) for Player" and select "HiddenBook" for (Ability). Your spellbook will now be hidden and take up no space on the UI, but all of the passive abilities will still work!

I'm afraid that just makes it a conspicuous field of Green. It doesn't make the icon slot disappear. You need to use the disabled spellbook trick I just explained.
Okay
Hmm... How about request an icon which is just black?
Or you could make a Trigger for it, like some unseen and unclickable unit which gives an aura only to you or casts a spell on you every 1 second?
