Consult the software authors for help not us. Setting up a file sharing hub is not something that we would have experience of. Sure I know how to write file sharing software but that does not help with existing software.

It is always best to start with the people who wrote the software as no one knows it better than them.

Whatever, you ask for a solution and when people try to help you you just turn their solutions down because it uses another method

Of course why use the updated file that comes with a tutorial and is supported by the creators while I have the 2008 version?

You do not want a hub. Switches are far faster as they allow full duplex communication without any collisions.

I think you are using the wrong terminology. In any case are you behind a NAT? If so you may need to assign some mappings so it knows to redirect the required traffic to the server.

Consult the software user manual to identify which ports are used for communication. Then consult the router (which usually has the NAT built in) user manual to figure out how to port forward. You can consult your local Ethernet connection under network adapters to discover what local IP your computer has.

I am not sure UPnP should need to be disabled just to set up some NAT entries. However even if it is it should not affect anything next to media sharing between mobile devices and computers (a service that I do not use as I am too old for it (not facebook generation).

i tried to read the help file but it didnt help. i still cant connect to my own hub. i dont have the slightest idea what i am missing either.

and we don't have any idea of what you did either... don't expect anyone to be able to help you when you didn't even discuss what you tried to do so far...

i believe that the hub is currently working but i could use some outside help testing if people can connect to it from the internet. it have been running for days without anybody joining which could mean that there is an issue that i cant detect. if you would help me test if it works the address is andwet.no-ip.org. you are able to connect you can just leave right away but if not please tell me what error message you get. you need dc++ to connect to it.

it is a direct connect hub where people are connected to a central host first and then connects directly to other users. it has nothing to do with torrent. all i asked for was help with testing it to make sure that everything works. update: i have trouble using the hub in active mode. what am i doing wrong.

i found an issue. i tried searching for the hub but didnt find it so it appears that it isnt on any public hub lists. how can i make it so that it is on public hub lists?
I would advise asking the developers of the file sharing software. Most open source developers will happily help you with installation and configuration on their message boards.

Maybe find a "hub software" that has not been abandoned and is actively supported. The very fact it is abandoned likely means that it has been made obsolete or was never finished to start with.

How do you expect us to be able to help you with something virtually no one uses? We can only state the obvious as that is as far as our knowledge on this particular software goes.

Make sure all the required communication ports have mappings in the NAT and that the mappings are for the right protocol (TCP is not UDP, they are very different). Also make sure your firewall is not blocking any communications from the server process.

the firewall cant block anything when it is offline. i cant find any other software that can be downloaded. you are welcome to suggest software that is better though. there is lots of hubs in the world and the hub list contains more than 500. the ports are forwarded in the router. i can connect to it myself but it doesnt appear on the list of hubs so it like needs to be registered there somehow but i dont know how. port forwarding in my router forwards ports through both tcp and udp by default.
