That's not true. Giving it the type "Heroic" will only make it affected as a Heroic unit, like adding Light makes it affected as a Light unit.
In order to make a 'hero', you need to do many things, but the first is add a veterency behavior to your unit. This will not allow you to use hero spells or items, however, which are more complicated.
Items need to be done with dialogs, and hero spells with more behaviors. A full tutorial is here.
Then the answer would still be wrong, since adding the 'Heroic' status doesn't change the stats at all. In fact, since none of the mechanics in the game for default have any + or - bonuses toward heroic units, the only thing at all changed by adding the Heroic status is the word "Heroic" at the bottom of the selected unit.
Then, if is an SC hero it's just modify the stats to a little ( or much) higher values than normal units, and with the label "heroic" it's done the quick original SC hero. XD
