Is it possible to have a hero capable of building structures, and still be classified as a hero, i.e. leveling up and choosing abilities growing in stats, and if so, how would I go about doing this.
I was thinking about something like this too, there is also a way you could make it so that as the hero levels up, more building options become available to him.
The event is- Hero reaches certain level.
Actions- Research techtree [building] for owner of leveling hero

Yes.
I have it in my map and it's done just as Just_Spectating described.
If you're going to have learned hero abilities trigger upgrades that enable more buildings, keep in mind not to have things like Tomb of Retraining, as researches cannot be undone.
I suppose I should have made my issue a little more clear. If you give a unit building options, and you didn't base the unit off of a builder, it builds it lays the start of the structure on the ground for you, but doesn't continue building it, so if I want a HERO to build I cant base the unit off of a builder, because I have to base it off a hero. You can't just change its build options. So what I'm asking is how to remedy this.
You should either set it to the undead way of building, summoning, or you should give your hero the "repair" ability, which will allow it to increase the progress of the building construction and solve, in the most simple form, the basis of your problem.
