I'm interested in making some models for WC3, although I am not sure what a good poly/tri count would be for them.
What would you reccomend for a common unit, and whats a good poly count to abide by for a hero?

Thanks guys, should help me out a fair bit.
Oh yeah one question I forgot.
What about texture sizes? I'm under the impression of needing to use 128 or 256 sized textures.

Standard fodder unit is around 300-400 tris. Bigger units tend to be 600-700. Heroes, usually 500-1000. Attachments should be no bigger than 100 tris. Buildings usually report several thousand, but that includes multiple tiers/build animation.
SFX depends more on your emitter count than your tri count (I guess they're about the same, since an emitted particle is 2 tris).
Textures are typically 256x256, but this varies and really depends on how much quality you want. 512 is a little big for WC3 though.

Thanks, I managed to get 3ds Max 5 and the art tools installed. The documentation is fairly nifty too.
